The people who most need to hear “let’s not wreck a moment of mourning a national hero with politics” are the wanna-be fascists trying to rush people past a national moment of mourning with their threats and their greedy self-centered bloviating who are interested only in hierarchical power to the exclusion of morality, justice, appearances, and absolutely anything else.
I wouldn’t lead with that but for wanting to get the pushy greedy rush rush that is anti-American psy ops that feels like physical assault for a reason (I don’t know if they’re too stupid to know that we see what they’re doing and how it gives away who their true masters are- trying to rush a country that’s been traumatized past a pause for mourning and healing is straight out of the Russian oligarch playbook – and do notice that McTreason and the Occupant are literally always trying it) out of the way, other than to offer everybody permission to tell anybody who tries it with you either in your face or on TV to “SIT DOWN and SHUT UP.” Do NOT let them do it. Do not let the MEDIA let them do it.
The mainstream media – Stockholm Syndromed as they are – does NOT have to scramble 120% to rush to report what Trump wants, like he’s some screaming little baby they’re constantly trying to pacify but whom nothing will satisfy. Many of the (white) national correspondents behave as if that’s the case – but Sarah Kendzior and Tiffany Cross and others who’ve been behind the curtain can tell us that the correspondents, even the big ones whose names we know, are told what to do by the executive producers and C-levels whom we don’t see (and Sarah continues to insist that finding out who specifically is in charge of deciding how overmuch coverage the Occupant gets when it’s commonly known now that he kept Mein Kampf by his bed will make a brilliant investigative project for the reporter willing to do it). But we DON’T CARE what he wants. We DO NOT HAVE TO CARE what he wants.
We DO have to care about what we can DO about what he wants.
This is where we are under this literal fascist who is encouraging a crowd to cheer the INJURY BY RUBBER BULLET of a mainstream news reporter (Ali Velshi out in Minneapolis as the protests against George Floyd’s murder at the hands of state-sanctioned violence began) … as well as lying about it
We’re going to do The Difference Between “Rule of Law” and “Law and Order” (the latter is a racist, fascist bullhorn-not-dogwhistle) another day.
But not today
Let’s do like Owl (I chose Mississippi, because I have personal reasons for feeling like the DSCC and the DCCC are going to need a firm talking-to once we get our democracy back). Let’s refuse to concede, like Secretary Clinton cautioned us last night (that is a BAD habit, Democrats. STOP DOING IT). And in our heads, let’s sound like Rachel: “Now is not the time to quit paying attention.”
Turntables – Janelle Monae (from Stacey Abrams’ ‘All In for Democracy’)
911 – Lady Gaga
Home Is Where the Hatred Is – Gil Scott Heron
Winter In America – Gil Scott Heron
Whitey on the Moon – Gil Scott Heron
Imagine – Stevie Wonder
Amazing Grace – Aretha Franklin
