Here we go again. [DOT 16/11/24]

Well, I’m depressed, angry, upset, scared, and generally unhappy. I’ve been scouring the Internet for signs of hope, and, well, there ain’t much. But we don’t have a whole lot of choice — we’ve got years of orange lunacy looming before us. We gotta get through this somehow.

This is probably the most “optimistic” take I’ve come across. Basically, Trump is surrounding himself with incompetent idiots, and they’re going to screw things up so badly that we make a huge comeback at the midterms (yeah, I know, but a corollary point in this is that it’s going to be really hard to cancel elections, since the states run them). So, y’know, rebuilding from the ashes.

What will happen in the next four years? Here is my non-defeatist prediction.

I mean, look at their boss.

Objectively kind of hilarious imo that ~75% of the "waste" identified in this post touted by Elon Musk is interest payments on the debtDo they understand that you can't eliminate interest payments on the debt unless you *do something about the reason those interest payments exist*?

Okay, that’s it for me. I told you it wasn’t going to be a barrel of laughs. I have to say, like the author of the first article I posted, the extreme idiocy and incompetence of the incoming Trump administration makes me feel better, for some reason. They’re not masterminds, they’re morons.

  1. Morons have done a lot of harm in this little planet.

I can’t help it, I’m in numb, holy shit what’s going to happen next.

I don’t know the actual numbers, but seemed to me more people were worried about Paul/Tyson than Harris/Trump and I feel that is saying something.

    • They got what they deserved with the Paul-Tyson fight too. I didn’t watch it, but it was apparently like watching a couple of Lost In Space monsters stumbling around on a set.

There’s a reason why Fox cancelled Celebrity Boxing after two episodes.

    • I’m not convinced it’s accidental. He might really like the team. Maybe he wants some personalized gear?

      Signed,

When Pope John Paul II came to St Louis when I was in high school, they gave him sports jerseys for the Blues and Cardinals and he seemed really to like them.

      • That’s even better! Imagine Francis in the private residence watching a Saints game, his third or fourth can of Peroni beer in hand, and a big tub of kettle corn that he throws by the handful at his circa-1982 TV screen when the Saints make a boneheaded move.

  2. I know people are dumb and distracted by flashy things.

The problem is that the things we need to do to save ourselves are not exciting and a little painful but better than dying from starvation or lack of fresh water (AND cost powerful/wealthy people some of their excessive wealth).

But as we’ve seen in CoVID and beyond, there are plenty of people who are fucking idiots.

It’s too bad the MSM are just a bunch of kiss ass spineless weasels whose main job is to comfort the comfortable and distract the afflicted (or in the case of WaPo’s Woodward, a reason to sell shitty best sellers.)

    • I read a post yesterday that claimed that now the MSM was going to step up and start critically examining the Trump administration and put them under the microscope. Uh, yeah, sure. That’s absolutely gonna happen.

Even if it did, who would see it? Nobody in MAGA reality will ever know about it.

  3. The thing about Trump’s threats to the NY Times is that odds are he himself won’t Gawker them, but it will happen by some radical Republican suing in a friendly state court system, and case gets allowed by the rest of the judiciary to go gangrenous.

Gawker’s initial ruling was in the Florida system, and Gawker died because the judge demanded a ruinous amount of money up front if Denton wanted to appeal, and that money would have been frozen for years until the appeal finally made it to a judge who followed the Constitution. So Gawker accepted Thiel’s demand that they be bankrupted and sold for parts.

I’m sure AG Sulzberger thinks it’s a problem just with Trump himself, or controlling what’s said about a particular issue which someone like Haberman identifies for him as a sore spot with the goon. But it won’t matter what Trump does. It’s Trumpism that’s the threat, and that’s something Sulzberger can’t wrap his head around. He’s not capable of thinking about systems at large.
