How… [DOT 17/12/22]

…the hell is it almost Christmas?

OK and so not only am I having a party this weekend, but I am hosting an AirBnB-er as well. As if there wasn’t enough chaos at my house, welcome Ben, an opera singer from Bah-ston. I hope he can’t hear me snore. The cat loves him, so that’s a plus.

Are we over Twitter yet?

Oh no! I was in Peru (Lima and Cusco) in 2001 when Fujimori was being arrested. There was also an earthquake when I was there. But at least I wasn’t stranded. That would suck.

    • Umm, sex workers “might object”? Since it seems to me that’s their primary marketing channel, I’d wager that most would object. Unless I’m missing something. I suppose they could use web cams instead, but that’s not going to encourage … err … “impulse buys.”

You live in strange place, my friend.

  1. Interesting thing about trump’s trading cards – they were limited to 100 per person or household at $99 each. Why only 100? Maybe because it comes to $9,900. That’s $100 less than the amount required for reporting by the Bank Secrecy Act. 🤷🏻‍♀️🧺

  2. Since it’s the weekend, anyone care to go on an open house with me?

I would not change a thing about this house, I would not move a lamp or bibelot or painting, and I hope it comes completely furnished as is because I would treasure the scruffed-up butterscotch velveteen sofa most of all.

For those who have grown weary of their run-of-the-mill McMansion Hell, why not change things up and buy three of them at once? In their defense, I will say that for what these “properties” are they are fairly restrained: the windows are not nearly as mismatched as they could be, they don’t have weird pieces and add-ons stuck in random places, and the landscaping is a little more thoughtful than most. I don’t like the way they’re all jammed together but on the other hand it wouldn’t take much to link them with a galleria or a colonnade or something on each side of the central one and create a Godzilla of a McMansion. I also don’t like the paved/grassy ratio, especially with that menacing river right in front that is probably prone to flooding, but I guess most buyers don’t enjoy lawn sports as much as I do.

      • We most certainly can, at least in summer, if we view the McMansion Trio, because Brick Township is on the New Jersey mainland but there’s a very long, very thin barrier island to the east of it and boardwalks and ice cream stands and fudge places abound. In fact, if you’ll drive, we can take a detour south along this barrier island to Seaside Heights, which is where Jersey Shore was filmed. Or, in the other direction, and staying on the mainland, we can go up to Asbury Park, the shrine to All Things Bruce.

See? I do get out of Manhattan every so often, especially in the summer.

  3. One last thing about the Trump cards that I haven’t seen anyone bring up.  The main image with the lasers out of his eyes makes him look like Homelander from “The Boys” who is a white supremacist hero/anti-hero.  Coincidence? I wouldn’t doubt Trump is too stupid to know this but you can bet Stephen Miller did!

  4. …so…pinch of salt & all that…& obviously a referral isn’t a charge even if they make it…but…for the committee to be making enough noise about the idea for it to come up at this point seems like not nothing in terms of hitching their horse to a wagon carrying significant political capital if nothing else?

…apparently the standard for incitement of insurrection was set in US terms by brandenburg v ohio…& runs something like this

The Brandenburg test was established in Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 US 444 (1969), to determine when inflammatory speech intending to advocate illegal action can be restricted. In the case, a KKK leader gave a speech at a rally to his fellow Klansmen, and after listing a number of derogatory racial slurs, he then said that  “it’s possible that there might have to be some vengeance [sic] taken.” The test determined that the government may prohibit speech advocating the use of force or crime if the speech satisfies both elements of the two-part test:

    1. The speech is “directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action,” AND
    2. The speech is “likely to incite or produce such action.”

…& 1st amendment notwithstanding…that looks a lot like a case they could make…or indeed could have been making…over at the DoJ?
