How To: Post Your Own Pictures In Comments [Updated]

[Update 24/2/24 I believe I have made it so NO ONE can see your uploaded content.]

This is really about a new feature that took me way longer than I expected to get working and was also way harder than it really should have been but, GRIPING ASIDE, it works.

The feature is the ability to upload, PUBLICLY, items to your profile in your own directories (“folders” if you’re a Windows user). You’re supposed to be able to upload videos, music, and everything under the sun…unfortunately, I have been unable to increase the max upload size from 5MB (and it won’t accept *.webp files no matter what I fucking do) which is probably a good thing considering this site is one of the largest in the history of the interwebs. Also, because my intent was to simply allow y’all to upload your own images into the comment section.

Emphases up there because anyone can scroll through whatever you upload [Update 24/2/24 I am smart because no one can!] and I’m not smart enough – as of yet – to add a feature with which you can delete anything you upload. (There is a feature I added a long time ago to make your profiles private but IDK whether or not that setting prevents others from seeing your uploaded content…I’ll get back to that if I remember…or if someone reminds me).

Firstly, you’ll see a new nifty “Media” button when you go to your profile. Click on it.

Then click “Public” which you’ll have to do every time you wander off to this part of your profile.

Click the down arrow to the right of “Add new”:

Click “Add new directory” (you won’t have to create a directory or “folder” every time because, in the future, you will just choose one you’ve already created.

Type in your desired directory name and save.

Either click the “Public” icon or choose “Public” in the drop-down menu (which you’ll have to do every time – basically all of your directories will be children to the parent “Public” directory).

Then choose the directory to which you want to upload your file. Once you’ve selected the directory, click “Add new”:

Then drag the file & drop it in the box or click “Select Files” to browse to the file you want to upload.

Then click on the image,

Where you can edit the name and enter a description for easy access later (you only have to upload to your profile once…once you’ve uploaded it, you can browse to it a year from now to copy the link and share in the comments again) and click “Save your edits”:

On that same screen, right-click the image and choose “copy image address” or “copy image url” or whatever your browser says.

Then go to where you want to insert the comment and follow the gifs/images bit in the following post:

      • …I believe that the distinction is, roughly, that doing it that way requires the ability to access & upload to either the site servers in the sense wordpress gets involved in or use a link to another source…but in the sense the comment section understands it you’re just embedding a link rather than uploading an image…this way you can put a file on your device into a comment “directly” by uploading the thing through a different path

…hopefully it means myo has less headaches about our profligate use of hosted pics…our boy deserves more spare time in his free time, I reckon?

  1. okay…i think ive figured it out…..here have the neighbourhood defibrilator

im honestly surprised nobodies watched crank one too many times and tried to juice themselves yet…as these things are very much made to be opened without a key in case of emergency

and they are in most neighbourhoods….but more importantly in most tiny villages where ambulance response time is slow
