Hump Dayz [DOT 21/4/21]

ICYMI, here’s a good recap from yesterday. I guess we can take a moment for a collective sigh of relief.

Derek Chauvin guilty of murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd

By bearing witness — and hitting ‘record’ — 17-year-old Darnella Frazier may have changed the world

That’s a shame.

My idiot self laughed at this for entirely too long.

  1. So that statement from Nancy Pelosi was…something, huh? George Floyd didn’t throw himself on a grenade to protect his platoon, he was murdered in broad daylight, and if a 17-year-old bystander hadn’t filmed it we might never have known about it.

  2. It’s a true tell of how bad things are when we have 9 real-time minutes of video showing a police officer committing a murder, a defense team that was openly looking for a plea deal early on and a police chief saying in open court “That was wrong” … and we STILL had to hold our breath for an hour that the jury wouldn’t just vote for white supremacy anyway.

I’m obviously glad at the outcome, and here’s hoping this inspires more convictions of cops who break the law they’ve sworn to uphold.

  3. The verdict didn’t have to be this tense.
Someone posted photos of Chauvin before and after the verdict (not sure if true, but it felt like it.)  It was the look of a thug who assumed he was going to be free (and pay Florida taxes while working/living in Minn like the scum he was) and found out he wasn’t.

  4. Today I feel exactly like I felt on every graduation day ever, when someone would make a speech saying yeah, you overcame this hurdle, you did this work but you still have so much more to do. Just for today, I want to bask in the glow of getting this right this time and feeling like a corner has been turned, and feeling hope in the future.
