I Did A Thing: Homemade Dish Soap

I went through my recently dusted off “Homemade Household Products” pamphlet my mom made for me about 15 years ago to see what I could make with the ingredients I now have in bulk due to the panic-purchasing of laundry detergent and cleaners.

DIY Dish Soap:

  • Put 1 tablespoon borax in a bowl
  • Add 1 tablespoon grated bar castile soap
  • Add 1 3/4 cups boiling water
  • Whisk until completely melted
  • Allow to cool for 6 hours, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t gel
  • Add to a squirt bottle

The Result:

About half of a regular size dish soap bottle that is surprisingly “tough on grease” and “it softens hands as you do dishes” in a way that would render this post an 80’s tv commercial.
