Hi, friends!
I hope your day went well! If you’re in the US, I hope your taxes are done or that extensions are filed.
Topic of the NOT is rando shit you have questions about.
I saw a stupid big Dodge truck the other day with the words “POWER WAGON” on the back of the truck bed. I’m very confused. It’s not a wagon. It wasn’t even an extended cab. Why would you get that on the back of your truck? It looked like the same font that Dodge uses for their stuff, not some weird aftermarket add-on.
Also, does anybody have noise-cancelling headphones and do they work decently for flights? I have no problem with general plane operations noises, but the last few times I’ve flown anywhere very close to me were very noisy small children and babies. I know they can’t help it, wondering if headphones will block enough sound to be helpful.
I have questions about this maybe Matty could answer?

I have noise cancelling headphones but just got them at Xmas & haven’t flown with them yet. Will do so next month. I have worn them doing yardwork like mowing the lawn and couldn’t tell the mower was on. I have also worn them in the grocery store, almost got run over in the parking lot but other than that I enjoyed not hearing any muzak or idiots talking on their cell phones with the speaker on!
I can sort of answer this… probably the reinforced concrete on the top level finally had it. Oil, road salt and other auto runoff penetrate through the concrete causing the steel rebar inside to rust over time. If it is not maintained on a regular basis eventually you put enough weight on it and poof the top deck crashes onto the next and it falls like dominos.
Probably never got inspected or the inspectors were paid off.
Occam’s Razor, you’re no doubt correct. That Pace University “campus” is especially grim. It’s like something you’d find in a failed small city that was put in during a last-ditch urban renewal effort in the 1960s or 70s.
I only know this because I’ve done lengthy jury duties, and depending on the scheduling you can get like a three-hour lunch break, so I used to wander around all over that area. The breaks were so long that I used to go up to SoHo, which is not a quick walk but I could do it in my early 30s. I used to also haunt the harborfront like Captain Ahab, and ask the court personnel for restaurant tips in nearby Chinatown. That was a Federal grand jury that went on for 18 months. Two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I didn’t serve all of it. I’ve been back to jury duty several times since, including a State grand jury stint, but nothing like that Federal grand jury duty.
I have an uncle who was a structural engineer specializing in concrete. From what I gather it’s very easy to screw up and there is no way for anyone to know for years unless they are watching every step of the way from initial prep to making the molds to mixing and pouring and then monitoring the curing process.
And then even if the concrete is right, it’s not flexible and susceptible to stress from any kind of torque, so if there are foundation issues or problems with any support structure it can break apart.
My kids have noise cancelling headphones and they are very effective at blocking out the voices of parents.
But that seems to happen even when they aren’t wearing the headphones.
Better Half and I can do that to each other. It’s called “Situational Marital Deafness.”
I’m angry and sick at heart over Fox settling with Dominion. The very thing I feared happening did in fact happen. They don’t have to make any public admission of guilt.
$$$$. I suspect was always about the money not about satisfying the feelings of anyone who hates Faux (I do too.)
Dominion got what it wanted.
It’s disappointing but not surprising. They are a corp. all about the money & took the sure thing instead of the possibility a jury could screw them even with overwhelming facts. Fox will not change until they are killed off by something bigger than this. Biden should ban Fox from all press conferences & pass an exec order that no government offices can play Fox News. Too many military bases are showing this shit to the most easily mind controlled groups working against our own countries interests.
At least this might give us hope?

The thing is even if it had gone to a verdict, all they would have had to do is write the check. There would have been a verdict, but Fox would still have had every right to say it was wrong.
The trial would have been a blast, but this is still a good thing, just not everything. And there is more to come as more suits move along.
Why do fools rush in where wise men fear to tread?
Why ask why?
Why do the dumbest of us think they’re smarter than the rest of us?
Why can’t Gunnar Henderson throw the ball across the fucking diamond?
The OriLOLes way?
You’d think with a name like Gunnar, he would be accurate as a rifle.
Naaaaah, Manchu, this was a Gunnar, too😉
And while he can sling a guitar well, I don’t know so much about a gun😉
Ngl, the Arsenio interview is a LOT of fun, and what I’ve caught so far of the longer one is really neat, too!
Why would anyone vote in favor of legislation brought about by Marjorie Taylor Greene and George Santos?
I can’t help but think that they deserve brain aneurysms for all the rage strokes they provoke.
Here’s the thing about noise canceling headphones: They need a consistent level, and character, of noise in order to work effectively. So a lawnmower will get canceled out, but if you’re on a train going in and out of tunnels, you’ll get this really weird wooby sensation in your ears as the noise canceling is constantly trying to compensate for the changes in the ambient sound. So, a large crowd of murmuring people will get canceled out, but a shrieking child will not–at least not very well. Besides, the noise canceling itself really fucks up the sound of whatever you actually want to listen to. It makes everything sound muffled. Plus, some people have a nausea reaction to noise canceling.
So, for my preference, I actually use earbuds with Comply foam tips. The Comply tips are a little pricey ($40 for three pairs of tips), but holy shit are they worth it. Firstly, they create such a good seal in your ear canal that you can’t hear shit even with your music turned on at a moderate level. Secondly, the quality of the sound they provide is so much better than stock tips (because earbuds aren’t physically capable of reproducing low frequencies, so the tips utilize the phenomena of bone conductance to use the human skull as a resonance chamber). A better seal means better sound.
So, instead of dropping a couple hundred bucks on over the ear noise canceling headphones, I always recommend dropping $40 for the Comply foam tips to put on whatever earbuds you already own.
This is amazing information! Thank you!!!
The Maple Leafs/Loafs shit the bed in game 1 of the playoffs against Tampa Bay (I’m pretty sure) sending most Leaf fans over the edge tonight leading to tonight’s question…
How much booze did myopicprofit drink after Game 1?
I’ll be a little vague here. One of my brothers-in-law is a fanatic for a sprots team, and they lost a very important game. He spent the following 8 hours redoing the tiling in one of their downstairs bathrooms. His wife and children were not amused but he did a really good, rage-filled, Incredible Hulk-like job.
Just flew back after my cancelled flight with Sony wf1000xm3 noise cancelling earbuds. Totes worth it.
nowadays far as i know…power wagon is just a trim level for oversized trucks
call back to the civilian version of dodges ww2 trucks
as to why power wagon tho….. suspect thats just something about needing to sound like a manly man thing
tho i guess…in its cargo/troop transport version it did kinda resemble a horse drawn wagon…but self powered…so maybe thats the thinking they went with…
but even back then i kinda feel like thats the kind of backward logicking that happened after someone thought cool name bruh!
Maaaan, those 40’s trucks were just COOL!
Between that, Woodies, and old-school 1940’s-50’s Willys Jeep trucks?
The only ones that get any cooler, are the early ’50’s bullet-front Studebakers, and that other classic/abomination (to some folks!) Edsels😉😁🤗
Ohh that makes more sense. Stylistically it looked nothing like the old trucks. I guess it’s Dodge trying to capitalize on the same nostalgia that Jeep did with their trucks that look old timey.
Anyways, if anyone wants to blow $85k on a Dodge truck power wagon, I guess go for it.
