I have so many questions [NOT 22/6/22]

…and all of them are what the fuck.

Hi, friends!

How was your day?

I should have known today was going to be full of idiocy. On the drive in, I passed some old dude in an ugly 90s model boxy sedan with a “PATROL CAR” sticker on the bumper and like 4 extra antennae on it. Icing on the cake? Dude had left hand on the steering wheel, right hand holding a speed radar gun pointed above the steering wheel.

Anyways, the day only went downhill from there! At least the heat isn’t bad today, that’s a good thing.

    • Yeah, I’m confused. Precisely what would he do to any speeders he detected? Chase them down? Perform a citizen’s arrest? Give them a talking-to? Content himself with a hard stare?

Sounds more like he’s mentally ill. Years ago in my hometown we had a schizophrenic we called “Mr. Handy” because he wore a colander on his head with various wires and knick-knacks bolted to it. He would call the police if he walked down the sidewalk and was inadvertently splashed by a water sprinkler. To the best of my knowledge, no arrests were ever made from intel provided by Mr. Handy.

I wonder if this dude was just brandishing an old hair dryer or something.

  1. Unrelated, it took way too long to explain to my parents how the Westminster dog show works tonight. Like took 20 minutes to get them to understand the structure of (1) individual breed winners then (2) group winner and then (3) best in show.

I really don’t understand how it was so complicated and that’s concerning.

    • I understand. My wife, daughter, and I are unable to explain smart phones to my 87-year-old mother-in-law. She’s utterly incapable of grasping the concept of a touchscreen. She demanded one and then demanded something else that wasn’t a smart phone. Now she’s demanding a smart phone again.

Seriously, apes can use iPhones. https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/chimp-uses-smartphone-instagram If a chimp can use an iPhone, what in the actual fuck is wrong with my MIL?

I literally do not know how to address this issue. My wife, who is a saint, listens to my MIL’s bullshit and somehow diverts her to other topics. This is fortuitous for my MIL’s continued health, because I’m at the point where I dream of smothering her with a pillow.

        • The problem is exacerbated by some of my MIL’s contemporaries, who are perfectly comfortable with smart phones. So the problem lies with my MIL. It’s not necessarily an age issue. She, of course, sees others using their phones and blames us for not “explaining it to her right.” Pretty sure the chimps don’t get much of an explanation.

She’s been a housewife all her life (as much as you can be with maids and yard people) and I really think the lack of stimulation has caused parts of her brain to atrophy. She way overreacts to small setbacks or anything out of the ordinary (OH MY GOD THERE’S A NOTIFICATION ON MY COMPUTER OH MY GOD) instead of just clicking “update” like a normal person.

  2. The heat was unbearable today but it’s getting ready to storm so hopefully, it will cool things off. I’m feeling a little better, got my Covid test today so I should know something tomorrow. The doctor said they are seeing a lot of fall type viruses already so it’s possible it’s just RSV or something.

  3. I had not the best day. Nothing terrible, just running around in circles. I had a gyno appointment (fun times), and needed to pick up my husband’s meds. Of course they sent it to a pharmacy at a different office than the one I was going to, so I stopped on my way in. Except they didn’t have it. They were out of stock. So was the office I was on my way to. So I had to stop at a third doctor’s office after my appointment. I was out of the house for 3 hours just for an appointment and a prescription. Ugh.

So much nonsense would be prevented if ADHD meds weren’t nearly impossible to obtain. We’re not allowed to pick them up until the day he runs out, so we have to scramble that day with all the stupidity and inevitable roadblocks that pop up trying to do it last minute. Which, again, they force us to do. Such a great idea to force ADHD people to struggle through roadblocks at the last minute every single goddamn month right? Oh, and the copay was randomly double, so now I get to spend hours on the phone with insurance to figure out what new way they’ve invented to screw us over this time. We probably need a new preauthorization or something, which will mean more phone calls. Or they re-tiered everything again and now want us to be getting some other version of the med.

Oh, I will say, I recently found Cost Plus Drugs, which doesn’t have controlled substances, but does have a bunch of our other meds at cheaper prices than our insurance copays (and they don’t take insurance, they just charge less). I’m so sick of health insurance.

    • They do make ADHD and psychiatric drugs such a fucking pain to get! I have some friends who deal with it all the time and it’s like kicking someone in the face to be like hi let’s regularly spike your anxiety really fucking high trying to get your regular meds.

      • The reason ADHD and psychiatric drugs are a pain is because they are classified as controlled substances by the FDA especially if they are known to have certain mood altering affects or ingredients that are addictive then the manufacturer has to keep the active ingredients under lock and key.

There are different classes of controlled substances and each has to be handled in a certain regulated way which is why they are a pain in the ass to get (it is designed to be that way.)  Cannabis is on the list but a different class. So are Oxycodone, Tramadol and Hydromorphone (pain killers), again different class.

Most ADHD meds are a variation of meth amphetamine.  Klonopin, Zoloft, Zanax have different actives but due to the fact that one can be heavily dependent on them from what I understand the withdrawal symptoms are terrible for that class of meds.

        • Yes I understand that, though I still think there has to be a better way. And honestly I think it’s absurd that ADHD meds (which yes, are mostly stimulants) are treated the same way as barbiturates or opioids. They’re not nearly as addictive, and they’re not killing people (at least, not nearly at the same rate).

And because you brought up withdrawal, generally it is a terrible idea to go off psych meds. And yet, because we are so often dealing with out of stock pharmacies and roadblocks on the day he’s out, sometimes my husband ends up having to go days without his meds while we figure it out, which sucks real hard for him. And the doctor’s office and pharmacies are usually totally unsympathetic and when you get anxious or upset while dealing with them about an understandably stressful situation, they label you a likely abuser and start treating you with suspicion and disgust. So that’s fun too.

          • I think that is the real problem is that the War on Abusing prescription drugs doesn’t care about the people who actually need the drugs and makes no allowances for it.

As I said, I really think that the system for perscribing Controlled Substance meds is designed to be difficult.

  4. 3rd interview went well.  I spent an hour and a half in the interview which was a half hour longer than I was supposed to.

I have another long interview with someone else tomorrow.

And my back isn’t as fucked up, but I’m still going to chiro on Sunday and not do any overtime.

If things work out (and they haven’t as I’ve been trying to leave for the past 7 years since I ended up being a clay pigeon in management’s gunsights) then I’m going to find it a bittersweet moment. I’ll be happy I’m leaving but I’ll be sad about the folks I leave behind.
