If it Bleeds, It Leads [DOT 5/6/20]

We return to our regularly scheduled DOT after yesterday’s departure. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, or just a thing, but here we are, irregardless.

I was almost done catching up on the news of the day, when the tweet below came across my feed. [Be warned: graphic video.]

“NPR in Buffalo says the man was taken away in an ambulance, and WIVB is reporting that he suffered a laceration and possible concussion.”

This is in Bethesda, Maryland, which is full of bougie rich assholes, the majority of whom profess to be very liberal. But fuck if they’ll send their kids to diverse public schools. Pretty sure the collective internet will have this guy’s name and place of business by COB today.

This is what passes for good news today, so I’ll take it.

  1. …don’t seem to have the link to hand but I believe I read that they’d “suspended” the policemen that shoved the guy in Buffalo into that boulder-looking thing?

…& as someone who generally tries to avoid twitter some of the replies to that lighting strike were a pleasant diversion

…here’s hoping some of this bullshit turns a corner without getting all old testament & stuff getting smote?

    • The shover in Buffalo has been suspended but not the rest of the police who watched and marched on, or maybe more critically, none of the superiors.

Over and over, videos of police violence are showing the ranking officers in the middle, meaning this is being orchestrated in the places where they are out of control.

  2. I am truly sorry if this is a no no (self promotion) but I make tunes (I don’t sell them or anything, just a hobby), but here is a song I made (I wrote lyrics, a friend, Habitrax, made the beat)

    • I think Riley has the right take — Michele has had the reputation of being unpleasant to work with in pretty much every setting, from Broadway to television. It’s tough to say racism if she’s just hateful to everybody. Not saying it’s not racism, but that’s going to get hidden in the cloud of general nastiness.

  3. So this week has featured:
    Globally: still strong pandemic
    Regional: protests, riots, chaos.
Locally: violent thunderstorms, (a derecho!) that knocked out power since noon Wednesday, with temps in the low 90s.

    I need a vacation.

  4. seems like we’re protesting american police brutality over here too

im not sure how much point there is to us furriners protesting as i dont think the current administration gives a fuck about optics….or a fuck in general…but hey its the thought that counts i guess
not sure how comfortable i am with crowds that size at the moment tho…

      • kinda have too here cops would have shut the protests down if social distancing was getting ignored too much…
and i guess as our cops werent the ones being protested against today everyone nicely played by the rules…
tbh…our cops arent so bad here… some are assholes but they are mostly proffesional assholes….that said..when they do cross the line it does still usually seem to be against minorities

  5. Meanwhile in rural WA…. Antifa panic has spread to such a degree that roving bands of armed Cleti terrify unsuspecting campers.

    A twitter thread.

And an article about the same.

Family harassed in Forks after being accused of being members of Antifa

The twitter thread is wild, and worth the read.
