Look, I won’t be voting for would-be President #BillionairesToo in the primary, but he is doing a couple things I like, from the big-picture perspective.
Because he has inexplicably decided to not bother with some of the earlier primary elections (?), he’s been campaigning in Michigan, which is a fairly crucial but extremely winnable swing state this year (it went to Trump by less than a point). So, he’s flooding Michigan’s airwaves with Democratic ads earlier than they normally would see them, building up the network of campaign workers that would likely convert to working on the general whether Bloomberg wins the nomination or not, and getting those guys pumped up, hopefully. One of the lesser known perils of our system this year is that Democratic candidates are stretched thin and swing states that are not early enough in the primary season will be getting into shit late in the game this year.
He’s also possibly the only person or organization just running anti-Trump ads, and pro-impeachment ads. I mean he is generally just trying to drive Trump insane I think. I have been saying he should stay out of the race and use his money to benefit the party at large, so while I think he leaves a lot to be desired in that department, I think this benefits us as a whole. To add to that, he is not focusing the generalized anti-Trump rhetoric on himself or his campaign.
As a child of southern anti-Trump suburban white Republicans, I can tell you my parents fucking eat this petty shit up about how gross Trump is (of course they don’t care about racism or crimes). My parents will not be voting for a Democrat no matter who it is, but targeting that well-mannered white suburban woman who just thinks Trump is icky and who they keep saying is our new swing voter…I think that’s a good idea.
I don’t think Bloomberg is going to win the nominaton (and if he does I think we will have hell to pay for it), but these things are good.
And, um, Team NOT-Bloomberg 2020.
So basically you’re saying he has a role to play. I can accept that. Anything that gets an anti trump message out there is good. I hope he keeps hammering away at him. He can afford it, and it will benefit whoever ends up with the nomination.
Yeah that is exactly what I’m saying. What he could be doing is spending all this money on ads all about himself and just hanging around New Hampshire acting like he’s a frontrunner. But, whatever this strategy is, I think it might be a net positive for us as a whole (although not necessarily him).
I’ve been saying the exact same thing. The fact that he’s straight-up attacking Trump is something that’s long overdue. There’s also some evidence that it’s getting to Trump himself:

Anything that fucks with Trump in any way is okay by me.
The constant drumbeat is ultimately going to have an effect on people. Like you, I don’t want him as the nominee. But I firmly believe that literally anything is better than Trump, so if it ends up being Bloomberg, he gets my vote.
Nice – glad to know I’m not the only one. People keep saying “what’s the best strategy, what’s the best strategy” and I’m like…I think the best strategy is to come at it from all sides. I understand the other candidates’ tendencies to not want to let Trump suck up all their oxygen, Trump has been showing that he drives turnout on BOTH sides. We oughtt use that, so I’m glad Bloomberg is.
Hiiiii!!!
That vanity fair article made me think maybe we should stop the ‘Orange ______’ nicknames and go to something like Tabby, Fatty, etc.
Whatever gets under his “skin,”
OTOH, he could do all of this and not fucking run right?
Well yeah, that would be best haha.
