I don’t have to tell you that Blaine Gabbert has quite literally never been good. His goodness or relative worth to a team has never been a significant factor in why teams keep signing him to be a back-up. Gabbert’s greatest strength has been his ability to look like an NFL quarterback in practice, even if it’s never translated to wins on the actual field. This has literally always been the case for Gabbert, who, once upon a time, was talked of as being a better, “safer” option than Cam Newton.
Let’s not forget that Gabbert wasn’t even the best quarterback in his own goddamn conference in 2011, and that Cam Newton ripped Alabama’s heart out and marched to a national championship. Instead, let’s fast forward today.
Cam Newton, former NFC Champion, Rookie of the Year, 3 time Pro Bowler, Offensive Player of the Year, and 2015 NFL MVP, is still left on the opening market, hoping that maybe, perhaps, he gets the opportunity to be a back-up somewhere.
Blaine Gabbert, who has literally never been good, re-signed with the Bucs to back up Tom Brady, and has been employed uninterrupted for the better part of almost a decade now.
God bless me with the ability to keep a job I’m not good at that a tall, blond white man has.
It’s always been a tall white man’s world.
