Hi, friends!
Wednesday! Halfway to the weekend!
Has there been something where you are like “have I lost my goddamned mind?”
This week I have been looking for some missing shorts for 3 days. I couldn’t find them. I looked everywhere. Checked to see if I accidentally managed to leave my 2 comfiest house shorts in the washer. Checked in the chest of drawers. Checked in the drawers I don’t put shorts in, just in case. Checked the dirty laundry basket. Checked the basket of clean folded laundry I hadn’t put away yet. Checked to see if I left it in luggage (which made no sense as I’ve worn the shorts last week). Checked if they fell behind furniture. Checked fucking everywhere.
Friends, finally I checked the dryer. And found a small load of clothes that I forgot to put away the weekend prior. I had a small enough laundry load on Sunday that I could air-dry everything instead of even running the dryer, so I forgot there were clothes in there.
All the time! It’s called marriage. I’ll ask my wife if she has seen something or knows where it is & she will say no. I will search every place I could have possibly left it & then find it in a place I would NEVER put it. I found my biking backpack in the side pocket of a suitcase we never use a year after I gave up looking for it recently. The other day hours after she left for the airport, I couldn’t find my car keys. She has a habit of taking both sets of keys in her purse so I thought I was fucked. She said she only had one set so I ripped house apart. Found the set I usually use hanging on a new key rack she made in the closet without telling me! It was the day I had a dental appointment with a few for missing so I was super stressed. She just laughed, “oh yeah, I did that”. If it wasn’t for me searching every one of her coat pockets I would have never seen the new rack. Also found the keys for the neighbors house that I was cat feeding while they were away so…good thing.
I read the first half of this and decided I was going to reply to it, “this is why you don’t get married” but then I read this…
…and I thought, “that level of troll is the exact type of spouse I’d strive to be if I were to ever get married.”
The smartest thing for me to do would have been to not even reply at all. It would have been just as smart as not getting married.
Sorry…what were we talking about again?
Oh 100% agreed for me, too. I’d be such a smartass that it would be an exercise in masochism for someone married to me.
I had to call my phone last week to find it. I completely forgot I had plugged it into a speaker the day before, so I briefly started stressing that I had dropped it somewhere a while ago and I had lost any chance of recovering it.
We use the Find My Phone app at least 5x per week to find my wife’s phone. Usually as she is freaking out to leave for work.
I do this on a regular basis.
Me? No. My wife? Constantly.
I’m utterly rigid about putting my things in the exact same place all the time. I can find them in the dark, I can find them in a hurry, I can find them whenever I need them. Phone goes here, keys go there, wallet goes there, everything is in its place.
My wife, on the other hand, scatters her crap all over the house. Where are my keys? Have you seen my phone? Did I leave my Fitbit in the bathroom?
Drives me nuts. I’m like, PUT SHIT IN THE SAME PLACE EVERY NIGHT
Exactly! Since she made that key rack in the closet, she has NOT put her keys in there at all! Yet, feels the need to move my shit!
@Bryanlsplinter you are my Floridian doppelganger.
Hey wait a minute!
awww you beat me!
I don’t have a response…I just want to put this in blockquote:
…so I can bask in its glory one more time.
I’m with you on that. My husband constantly asks me where stuff is. Because I have some combo of OCD & anxiety, I pay extra attention to details of my surroundings. If I’ve seen what he’s looking for, then there’s a high probability that I will remember its location (especially if it is not where it is supposed to be). I’ve been training my kids by repeating the motto “We put things back where they belong so that we know where find them later.” Mostly so that they develop good habits but also so that they don’t bother me to find every little thing.
yeah…I samesies want to blockquote this to bask in its glory as well but I don’t want to overstay my welcome?
I haven’t had the time I’d like to be on the NOT lately.
It’s a party and you’re always welcome!
Just to add because I forgot to mention it above, I’ve totally been smug as fuck all week to myself because I didn’t need my dryer this week. Like oh, look at me, I’m reducing my electrical usage.
