  3. The details of that DOJ filing are wild. It’s increasingly clear they’re aiming at prosecution of Trump.

    And I think it would be a mistake to assume it’s narrow. I think there is a good chance it’s not going to end up just about the holding of classified information, it’s about the transmission of it.

    I think they would have preferred back when things started in early 2021 to have had made this go away by getting a full inventory, scaring Trump into keeping his trap shut about secrets, and then tying up loose threads.

    But at some point I think they realized that wasn’t happening, and I think they reached that point a long time ago. I suspsect they know a lot more than they’re letting on about ongoing transmission of classified information, and they’ve also been worried for a long time that copies exist which Trump or his people want to keep using. And so they’re dropping the hammer this way.

    • I think you’re right. It may not work, but I think the DOJ is going for it. In addition to the points you made, I think the scope is much wider than I originally thought. I suspect there are a bunch of right-wing “leaders” who are implicated and will probably get indicted first. There’s entirely too much hysteria on the right about it, to the point where I think lots of them are scared. They thought they were completely untouchable. And while Trump managed to silence Weisselberg, I’m pretty sure it’s not going to work on cretins like Lindsey and Rudy.

      One day in the future, a description of the great Mar-a-Lago confidential document scandal will appear as part of explanations of the phrase, “fuck around and find out.”

      • I’m leaning right now that the direct conspirators are not office holders, but I would not be surprised if we see a lot of suspicious connections with people like Jim Jordan via intermediaries.

        And I am very curious whether Trump has media connections besides obvious hacks like John Solomon, and if they go to bigger fish like Hannity or even mainstream reporters like Ken Vogel of the NY Times.

        • I think you’re right — I don’t actually think Lindsey will be implicated in this (maybe Rudy). I was just using them as examples of Trump-adjacent cretins. I could see Gaetz, Jordan, and maybe a couple of others. Gaetz simply because he’s a fuckwit and wouldn’t be able to resist pawing through the salacious information on Macron.

          • I think Grassley is another possible end point, not only because of his long association with conspiracy types like the Ledeens but because of his role in Senate investigations. Devin Nunes too until his resignation early this year.

            But who knows, really. I wouldn’t 100% rule out more weird wrinkles emerging.

      …I’ve been tied up all day with minimal access to things online so I’ve not got through all of it yet…but…yeah…on the one hand I think he might really&truly be what’s technically called “proper fucked”…but on the other…I dread to think quite how much he could actually have gotten away with if he understood how any of this shit works well enough to not utterly fuck up on a scale that’s beginning to look truly phenomenal

      …pretty sure I can’t see how they can avoid charging him in the end…& maybe his pet supreme court justices can get him back off the hook the way he did people like roger stone…but there’s no in for his GOP playmates to block the charges the way the senate could with the impeachment(s)?

    • 100% right. If ever there was a president who would get quietly snuffed out somewhere — say, stumbling down a ramp, oopsie! — it would be that walking, talking billboard of classified information.

      Of course, I never bought the “CIA killed the JFK” idea. Admittedly, I have a low tolerance for conspiracy theories, but also, they would be by far the least secure organization to keep something like that off the books. We already know the incredibly horrifying shit they were up to in that era!

Jackson, MS is a shithole.  I lived there for a year and I’m telling you that Jim Crow is alive and well there in spirit if not in law.  The thing is, most of the city is populated by black people and poor Caucasians.  The rich people all live in the suburbs to the North.  Plus, the fact that Biden is waiting for the governor of MS to reach out for assistance tells you all you need to know that no help is coming because that Republican cocksucker is perfectly happy to poison the poor.

      • Trust me, as much as you’ve read about it, none of that comes close to actually being there.  It is an unfathomably terrible place to live, and the reality is that it will never get better because the only people with the power to do so are either the ones actively making it worse, or too chickenshit to step on those precious state’s rights to make it better.

    • I actually wanted to write a lot more about it but the computer ate my homework. This is Flint (but worse) all over again — it’s a poor, mostly Black area and the cavalry simply doesn’t come for places like that, especially in Mississippi.
