  1. This series of posts in a beer blog I read made me think of Farscy.

    http://barclayperkins.blogspot.com/search/label/Alexei

The blogger is an older English guy who relocated to the Netherlands decades ago and the series is about him shepharding his grouchy adult sons on a trip back to England and places like Humberside and Newark.

It has great interchanges like this:

“They’ve got hot dogs.” Lexie announces.

He brings one back smothered in ketchup and mustard. It makes me feel a little sick. I’ll just not look at him while he eats it.

Andrew finally gives in ands gets some food. A cheese roll.

“Don’t stuff yourself too much, Andrew. Leave room for the chips.”

    “Fuck off, Dad.”

He isn’t struggling with the beer. He’s knocked back half a dozen, at least.

When he gets up to return to the bar, I ask him: “Can you get me two whiskies, please.”

“Dad, don’t go crazy. I’m just getting you one.”

Great. He’s acting as my nanny now.

“When did I ever go crazy?”

“Lots of times, Dad. Let’s not have this discussion again.”

    ….

    “Time for another drink, kids.”

I go to the bar with Andrew this time. To make sure I get the brace of whiskies. After taking a sip from one glass, I absentmindedly tip it into the other.

“Dad. You just mixed Bourbon with Scotch.”

Thinking quickly to cover my mistake: “Yes. It’s the fashion now.”

Alexei buts in: “Don’t talk bollocks, Dad.”

“That’s a charming way to talk to your father.”

    “Don’t talk rubbish, then.”

“That would take all the fun out of chatting with you.”

    “You’re pathetic.Just shut up.”

    • At least no woman’s to blame. It’s his own damn fault.

    • I went for my weekly visit to my parents’ house yesterday. I told my dad, who’s historically been a huge casual Jimmy Buffett fan, “Sorry for your loss.”

“Thank you,” he told me. “Bill Richardson was a great man.”

(My dad wasn’t laughing, but I was.)

    • We’re in the Eastern Idaho mountains for the week, and yesterday enjoyed watching two hummingbirds — one rufous and one Anna’s — at one of the house’s feeders. Sad to think about all the species we are grinding into nothingness.

  2. So Taylor Swift did her distribution for her concert recording through AMC theaters instead of a movie studio.

Internet rumors are they low-balled her and she was like get fucked, I don’t need you.

Meanwhile, presale tickets for her concert recording have hit like a US record.

The studios who basically have nothing in the hopper due to the strike turned down getting a chunk of that Swiftie $$$$.

    Greedy dumbfucks.

  3. rest in peace mr Harwell

    • Sad that a person died, but fuck that dude.

The band was vocally anti-covid safety and masking back in the pandemic and even performed at Sturgis rally. I think also they performed at either a Trump rally or the Republican National Convention.

      • Learning from a little line in this Variety article, that he also apparently had Wernicke Encephalopathy, makes me kiiiinda wonder about the assholeish stuff in his last couple years with the band–especially combined with the stories of him being unsteady on his feet & seeming kinda “out of it”–if perhaps he wasn’t dealing with it for a *while* or perhaps even Wernicke-Korsakoff?

Not that it negates the Sturgis assholery!!!

Because the WHOLE BAND decided to play there in the height of the pandemic!!!

If it *did* progress to WKS, that sounds like it would’ve most likely been hell on the loved ones around him, to watch someone they love deal with *that* on top of the heart & liver stuff.

He may have been a bag-o-dicks, but *daaaaayum* that is a disease I wouldn’t wish even on a *worst* enemy. Especially  if–as it sounded like on one of the places I read, his alcohol abuse was apparently exacerbated by the death of his son.

It sounds just sad, all the way around, an awful way to go, and I hope there was as much peace as possible for him & his loved ones.
