  1. eh?
    *checks news*
    oh!
well shit..the gubment made a good call for once
anyhoo wes never liked the english fucking tourists…rude fucking wankers they are…..rival the americans they do

    • Oddly enough I, an American, have never set foot on Dutch territory even though I’ve come close a few times, and for a long weekend stayed within walking distance of the border. I was in (the former West-) Germany and I said, “If the Netherlands is right there why don’t we just go over and have lunch or something?” My German host said, “You go. They despise us.” That’s a very sanitized version of what I was told in Germglish.

      • we despise everyone
tho there was a time we thought america was aspirational…
that shits in the past tho

      • Aruba? Sint marteen?
Both are lovely. Although sint marteen had the hell bear out of it after hurricane maria.

        • pretty sure we still consider both of those as part of the netherlands
i think one of them went independant…but we are still paying the bills

    • Take that back! Nobody rivals us for rudeness!

      • Go to Mediterranean Europe, especially southern Spain and the Balearic  Islands.

      • Damn straight! We’re number ONE! American exceptionalism!

      • i disagree… we are just as rude
we call it being direct tho
and we dont have american accents

        • But “they” is you, and “you” is *us*….
Just removed by what?… is it 11 or so generations, and about 300-400 years or so?😉

(That whole “New Amsterdam” thing, and all….😉😁💖)

          • lol i dont believe in atoning for the sins of our grandfathers
i did what i did….leave me out of shit they did
ive got enough to atone for

  2. …yeah, the UK thing isn’t looking great…they had the information about this newer strain maybe a week ago (it’s apparently more easily transmitted but not more virulent in the sense of being worse as an infection symptoms/mortality-wise) but boris dithered when it came to announcing that it changed things…which is pretty much his signature move when he has to deliver news people won’t like hearing…put it off & leave things to get worse then make an announcement that doesn’t do as much to curb the bad consequences as it could have if he’d done it sooner while trying to claim that despite contradicting what he said in the days leading up to it when “the science” said the same shit it was always “the science” that he was following

…they’d already had to shut down their attempt to get all the shops open to try & get in on some of that christmas spending to help keep businesses from going under…which seems predictable in epidemiological terms…but staring down the barrel of brexit from a locked-down perspective it’s not that hard to see why a lot of people were heavily invested in a seasonal spike in commerce terms…but for that to have worked boris would have needed to shut things down earlier &/or longer to stand a chance of it not blowing up the infection rate if people went out shopping/socialising/spending in the run up to christmas…but that signature move of his pretty much fucked up any shot at that working out the way anyone needed it to

…& this time (instead of the way things had previously worked with these announcements where they made them a few days before they came into effect) they announced around 6 hours before the new regulations kicked in…& with people all over the place having made plans to be with family/friends over christmas instead of being able to stagger the volume of passengers/journeys over multiple days the way things had been planned there were rammed trains & stations & a general lack of social distancing pretty much tailor made to spread that sucker all over the place…despite the fact that a fauci-like guy during the announcement apparently specified that if you hadn’t already made your trip you should unpack that bag & forget about it…presumably because it’s the travelling part that contributes most heavily to upping the chances of those transmission vectors co-mingling the way they need not to

…& even though “the opposition” had a fairly decent point about having asked him why he wasn’t saying that at PMQs last wednesday (since the numbers already seemed to say it was inevitable that their plan for christmas wouldn’t be able to stand) starmer repeated the same three or four talking points so often in such a short time it undermined the reasonableness of his point & sounded like he was just scoring opportunistic points for political reasons…which didn’t exactly seem helpful to him or anybody else

…between that & the whole probably-no-deal-brexit thing you have to imagine the new year in the UK is going to kick off with a shitshow…there are/were already hospitals in some places hitting capacity so the last thing anybody needs is a further spike in cases & it seems that’s almost guaranteed to happen even if folks do as they’re told & stay in on new year’s eve

…all in all not so much with the merry, there

    • …actually, I’m told they had notice of the new strain as far back as september…& data on it increasing the infection rates in several regions (like london) sometime in october at the latest…which would have allowed for a sustained shutdown that might have dropped infection rates low enough to make a christmas spike manageable…so I understated the degree to which a lack of timely action shafted folks over that whole thing via a vis the festive season

…but I suppose understatement is appropriate where things British are concerned?

      • @SplinterRIP, my dear friend, please be safe and careful…it all sounds fairly dire.

    • @SplinterRip, will you be able to spend Christmas with your parents or will it be a solitary holiday for you?

    • Dithering is an unfortunate human reaction that we’re all guilty of, but for decades right wingers gave lefty types shit for being indecisive dithering morons (even in the goddamn fiction) that has fucking stuck in the MSM.
**I figured that a man of “action” like BoJo would show some stones that they claim they have and show some fucking decisive leadership instead of acting like a dithering ‘lefty’ dipshit.** /s
I’m looking at you the more evil Ford, Dougie the Ditherer who didn’t want to upset “people” aka the Precious Precious Money when his stupid school plan blew up, when post Thanksgiving spikes happened and only acted like the timid doofus he is when even worse post Diwali spikes happened.
I have to admire the swiftness that Obama’s CDC team worked to implement protocols over Ebola and the wisdom he had in letting the CDC plan for potential natural biological threats from Asia until Dolt45 and his gang of fatuous feebs blew it all to hell.
What I’ve learned is that decisiveness and wisdom is only a product of intelligence, awareness and experience.
Stupid decisive people don’t have any bloody wisdom and any success is based entirely on luck/timing which entirely runs out (see the typical sprots coaches who morons look up to.)
Intelligent indecisive people lack awareness (and oft times experience) to make important (read life altering) decisions.  They think they have all the time in the world.
Even if one has the decisive acumen and awareness, the realization one is dealing with actual people makes one cautious and thoughtful because once you say the word, it’s done and one has to live with the choices one makes.  This why leaders have to be thoughtful and contemplative in a timely fashion.
This is why actual Leadership is so fucking tough.
A lot of loudmouth bullies like BoJo and Dougie are finding out the hard way while people die.  Makes me want to punch a lot of them in their loud mouths.

  3. also…fwiw
i dont believe for one minute that thats obamas playlist
i mean shit….. you’d need a team to put together a list that inoffensive
im just going to assume his list is really this

    • One article I read said that Sasha “helped.” So that may explain some of the choices.

That said, it’s wonderful to see a presidential daughter doing something that’s not 1. stupid 2. hateful 3. self-serving 4. sycophantic 5. greedy 6. embarrassing 7. appallingly embarrassing 8. embarrassing to the point that the word loses all meaning and you hope the sun goes supernova just to erase the stain from the universe.

  4. Re: The Obama song list. Just sign me up for Shady Pines. I have never heard of any of these songs and only barely recognize maybe 1/4 of the artists (and one of them is Bob Dylan.) I’ll be in the corner with a faraway look in my eyes remembering my glory days working the coat check at the Copacabana when it hosted “Salute to the Troops” nights during World War II.

Re: The twitterer-in-chief. I think I read that the official White House twitter account, something like @potus, has been handed over or will be to Biden. Not that Trump used it very much, and I’ve never used twitter at all. So I think he’ll have his account, and it will continue to be flagged for various user-content violations, too little too late to my Luddite mind. Let him go over to Parler, whatever that is, and join the other nuts who have to compete among the smut peddlers to get their voices heard.

    • …I think it’s kind of telling that twitter argued that his bulldozing of their T&Cs without getting banned was permissible because there was a “legitimate public interest” in being able to read his tweets…despite the fact that had he been forced to make announcements in the “traditional” way it might have curbed some of the insane diplomacy/policy-by-tweet bullshit that’s had people on edge on a daily basis

…on that basis I’m not all that hopeful they’ll actual treat him like other users as an ex-president…apart from @jack showing signs of being up for a lot of the dog-whistling the orange asshole drives too much traffic to their platform for them to seem likely to shut him down

…they absolutely should…& indeed should have…but it’ll co e as a shock to me if they ever do in a meaningful way?

    • Trump has always been too good for Twitter’s bottom line for them to ever go so far as to ban him. It’s the same for other social media companies which are refusing to ban or pull posts from other right wingers which clearly violate the TOS. Given the choice between doing the right thing and making more money, the money wins every time.

      • Yeah. Twitter has mumbled a few times about banning him due to TOS violations, and that’s never going to happen. Flagging is about as far as they’ll go, and I suspect that will taper off once he’s out of office. Best we can hope for is that his followers dwindle so much that he effectively disappears. Any normal folks who’ve been following him to “keep tabs” on him should stop on Jan. 20. They’re actually “protecting” him in a roundabout way.

    • Trump is too old and too senile to learn a new platform. He’s going to doggedly try to stick with Twitter until he dies, which will by no means be soon enough. That’s why he never used the POTUS account. He’d have to switch back and forth, and he’s too stupid to do that.

    • The popularity of President Obama’s memoir must be driving trump crazy(er). But I disagree that he won’t write a memoir. He’ll fill it with the same lies about his success as he has for his term in office. He’ll claim the most people ever at his inauguration, best economy in history, the most done for Black people since Lincoln, his great response to Covid 19, and how Biden stole the election. He’ll get the same person to write it that did Don Jr’s books. They won’t even have to sit down with trump, it’s all on record. And his base will buy it. The RNC will hand it out to donors. There’s too much money to be made for him not to do one.

      • Oh, he’ll probably commission one, but make money? I don’t think so. According to my wife the librarian, right-wing political books perform very poorly. She stopped ordering them about two years ago, and basically only “rents” them on request. There are few doddering old Republicans that want to read that garbage (but not PAY to read it), but after the first checkout, they gather dust. The “literate” Republican core voter (old) is dying off, and aren’t being replaced. MAGAs don’t read and are actually proud of that fact and pleased by their own stupidity. It’s not a solid sales environment for a book. Obviously that’s anecdotal, but she does have a few thousand patrons so it’s a decent sample size.

        • I’m glad to hear that. I hate the idea of him making more money off all the damage he’s done.

        • Wow, I never would have expected that considering all the right wing books on the bookstore shelves.  I figured as popular as Fox and Limbaugh and those other idiots are that the book market was just as lucrative.  Makes  you wonder why they keep writing them–or why publishers keep putting them out.

          • If i understand, the book market CAN be lucrative on that side….

But it means having daddy’s campaign launder money to you, through the mass-purchase of books by various LLC’s “associated with” or “subcontracted by” the campaign… or the RNC.
            🤫🤫🤫😉

  5. I look at the Raw Story site a lot, though I find some of their journalism to be a tad breathlessly overstated. BUT, this is a very interesting story, particularly when you think about Republican projectionism and McConnell’s post-election behavior:

    https://www.rawstory.com/2020/12/why-the-numbers-behind-mitch-mcconnells-re-election-dont-add-up/

    • It would explain the unexpected Susan Collins victory and how unpopular GOPers still survive in the senate (Cruz cough cough cough.)

  6. O.o
i just caught a part of a new scooby doo episode
in this day and age…with all the tech available to illustrators and animators alike why are cartoons getting uglier?
