…sure…but…it’s all in the game…or…something?

Idk i think if you want to understand why firms price consumer goods a certain way, understanding margins is actually extremely important? bsky.app/profile/erin…

mtsw (@mtsw.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T18:28:53.457Z

…it’s easy to get tripped up

I think both were factors overall but for fast food in particular you can just check this – operating margins at fast food restaurants did not increase in the early 2020s, the higher prices were the result of higher costs (of which higher labor costs was the most significant)

mtsw (@mtsw.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T18:05:56.160Z

…in fairness…many costs are effectively linked to other costs that have been rising…sometimes because of choices someone made…but…not always the person raising the costs…&…whether they adjust that margin up or down probably serves at least somewhat to indicate some things…like…if after payroll you’re out of business with 2% margin but at 4% you can give out bonuses at christmas & you pick 3% maybe people aren’t expecting bonuses…& maybe dropping from 4% to 3% let you not put prices up for a long time & then you can’t avoid it because what was 3% at christmas is 2% by march because happy new year, we back…bitches…so the price goes up but you’re at 2.75%…well…that sucks for everyone but you might not be the bad guy…if you’re banking a gazillion bucks after tax & when the overhead goes up your margin…expands…I dunno…you probably have rocket launches to pay for or whatever…but…it’s not always nice easy numbers that way…&…like…apparently for the food side of the thing the prices rising haven’t even reflected any knock-on shit from the “oops, we down a strait, folks” bit…so…that seems…not great…but…like…don’t go looking to see which of the “how do I have more fingers than that?” number of multinational conglomerates actually owns whatever makes whatever you were thinking of eating…it’ll just make your head hurt more when it hits you one of them is who the fucking aspirin came from, too…& then you’ll wind up sounding like my ass or something & nobody wants that now, do they?

Indeed the media instead framed this phenomenon as a huge problem rather than as a policy success, putting a lot of negative attention on e.g. fast food prices and other areas where rising working class wages caused inflation in consumer prices.

I saw these headlines and thought “oh well some jerk wrote a form letter to a kid’s letter that’s dumb” but no it appears that one of the worst people in Congress took time out of her day to talk shit to a 10 y/o and tell him he should be more worried about debt and school propaganda than climate

Boy, 10, sent persuasive essay about electric cars to congresswoman — who responded with a scathing letter ripping his teacher
“While I will never be able to know you, my guess is that your teachers will not give you a good educational experience and help you learn to think as they are too interested in…

What a soulless husk of a woman. But of course we already knew this because she is the worst tipper on the Hill by a mile.

The racist streamer Chud the Builder, known for harassment & calling people the n-word on stream, has been arrested in Nashville, apparently for disturbing the peace.

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-10T13:10:34.679Z

Rumor is spreading on Twitter that Chud the Builder was just in a shooting incident on stream. It is unclear at the moment who shot who.

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T18:36:30.669Z

It appears to be real, but nobody seems to have been recording the stream when it happened, but Chud the Builder shot someone and, it seems, himself.

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T18:54:53.082Z

I assume that the guy that Chud shot is seriously injured but probably still alive as he was "flown by LifeFlight". clarksvillenow.com/local/shots-…

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T19:32:26.791Z

The sad thing is that pretty much everyone knew that this was going to happen, when you have a chud with a gun walking around streaming, asking Black people if they are going to "chimp out" and calling them the n-word. bsky.app/profile/wink…

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T19:44:32.600Z

I’m glad he was arrested bec someone was going to get physically hurt. He is an endangerment to society.

I do hope this deleted tweet is shown at his trial.

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T20:19:58.123Z

I've already seen people speculating that various people put a hit out on Chud because they said he's get attacked for what he does & a bunch of fellow chuds think this shooting is going to cause the next BLM "riots". The nazi bar is truly something else.

Schadenfreudean Psycho Analyst (@quacksanonymous.bsky.social) 2026-05-13T20:30:10.160Z

The guy has his fans (219.4K followers on Twitter) but even a lot of figures in the racist right don't like him. I only found out who he was recently through his feud with Nick Fuentes, who criticized Chud's entire modus operandi as "mean".

…fucking miracle this is only on the order of a half hour late & I started trying to but the brakes on it 20mins ago, really…because that last run sort of pulled my attention away from what hardly seems like it couldn’t have been *something* more important than chud the builder…who…called himself that…voluntarily…which…just on its own seems like probably doctors ought to examine?

  1. I’m sorry, am I supposed to know who “Chud the Builder” is? Is he related to Bob the Builder? I don’t remember Bob the Builder using firearms, but I confess I didn’t watch too many episodes.

    • …I sincerely hope literally nobody I’ve ever spoken to in any format knew or knows who the fuck that guy is…even now

…but I’d share your guess as to the root association for the nomenclature…in a bob-the-builder-is-kiddie-stuff-&-this-is-man’s-man’s-man’s-shit-like-in-that-james-brown-song-that-knows-what-time-it-is-no-I-don’t-know-what-listening-or-irony-are…sorta way?

    • …one of these days…@myopicprophet is going to be forced to pull my tab for all the times I run that up being obdurately optimistic about things right before consequential voting happens

…if you don’t see me after that it’s probably because I had to take a job on a oil-rig…or…I dunno…driving some giant machine in a strip-mine somewhere that makes you live in an RV with no internet

…it’s not a small tab at this point

…smaller that warfighting telenovella style & keeping your leading man in hair product & blusher…sure…but aside from the US operational arsenal…it looks like a pretty big debt compared to most of the ones that show up on an anecdata basis

…maybe if I dress up real nice…or…I make my own social media platform…with blackjack…&…hookers…but…no trolls…like…I dunno…the billy goats gruff but fanfic for those dungeons carl crawls…& everyone thinks I’m so cool that it means all my stuff is so much better than everyone else’s stuff that I have the high score & I can break the game however I want…that’s how the internet works so the world must work like that now & we all have the internet the same way because it’s the same internet

…&…there’s more than one kind of illiterate people can not-be

…the magic 8-ball seems to be stuck on “that shit is HILARIOUS, bro”…but…I dunno…at the end of the day…or the end of days…delete as applicable…I guess pretty much all I got is apparently I’m that bloody-minded about some things

…I expect that’ll be those implicit biases we can’t see because they’re baked like all that half-baked not-proper-philosophy business with the less anon Q…that did Quality the way Wit did wit…but…with more motorcycles & less hearts & stomachs of a king & such…speaking of which…if you think that’s weird…the people that did the musical “return to the forbidden planet” also did macbeth…&…if you didn’t know that you missed the fuck out…the setting is…wanna say…soho…there’s chandler-coded private eyes & gangs & one of the well-known lines gets delivered as “yet who would have thought the old bike’d have so much oil in it?”…sorry

…maybe one of these days I stop doing this & just spend all day playing minecraft

…although everyone makes that sound pretty dicey, tbh…like call of duty with shitty graphics…so…I bet the japanese have a game for people who never leave the house where instead of taking over the world you have to keep everything in the system optimized so your character can lie in a hammock on a sunny beach with an endless supply of cold drinks & comic books

…now *that’s* how you stop reading this stuff…do something more constructive…really make something of yourself…or…something

…either way…those people that never leave the house…not loving the part where they aren’t the ones I have the hardest time seeing how they might get that way these days

…not to mention all the ones worried about going perfectly legal places perfectly legally on account of the possibility they might get caught up in a “temporary” “legal” SNAFU that Fs the U as far as maybe some exotic riff on a spell in a gulag…that mere dozens of months ago were on the “essential worker” leaderboard for who gets to not have to not-leave-the-house

…they weren’t lying about that topsy-turvy world bit…I guess I get seasick easily out on the calm deep waters in this big boat everyone’s trying to keep all the berths & births on…well…nearly everyone…there’s the ones trying to go to mars, I suppose?

    • On top of that, I imagine that CBS & other right leaning media are going to give significant discounts to GOP ads & charge more for DNC ones if they take them at all. Shumer will write a strongly worded letter & Dems will file a lawsuit that will go nowhere.

      • The sort of funny thing about this is I suspect it won’t happen only because those stations need the advertising and elections are gold mines. Losing 40-50% of election revenue would be crippling, even for the big players. (There’s also a million other ways to spend that money and there are a lot of questions about “let’s put Trump’s face on TV more” being way more of a detriment than an advantage.)

  2. …well…wes done resigned as a stand on principle…not quite said that’s the pitch…but…that’s the pitch…to the (I think but maybe check to be sure) 81 coconuts he needs the shy to be shy of when the wobbling stops & they tally the fallen ones under his throw…it…remains to be seen if you ever need to care if you know who wes is…or if more people will remember the old saw about the hands that wield the knife in the back & the mitts that get on crowns…or…something…don’t ask me…I never understand this stuff to begin with?

    • …& yet the rules of the game clearly state that these are the expectations that’s the business of managing

…always beats me how there’s still volunteers to try

…& then I remember who gives up trying to make that fetch happen

…& that’s why I have personal rules about when & how much of what it’s ok to drink?

      • And it’s also a fundamental misunderstanding of what is the lever and what is the thing you’re trying to move. Tearing down the idea of profit guiding all decisions, good; tearing down everything capitalism has built because it was built under capitalism, 3 billion dead. Kind of a big difference!

    • It’s something I’ve become well aware of. When I graduated, I used to piss on learning about economics. Unfortunately, that changed when economics blew up my career as a telcom engineer and nearly left me unemployed in 09. Then again in 2012 when I became 18 months unemployed.

I started to learn that despite my own prejudice that money is important (gotta eat) and that I’d better get my shit together to learn how the fucking system works. The smartest thing I did was change most of my RRSP funds to ETFs despite the howling of my “advisor” at the time.

However, the fundamentals didn’t reaally click in till I started a small stock fund and realized that cool ideas that don’t make money is just as stupid as dumb ideas that don’t make money (engineer bias… where ideas are “currency” instead of well currency. I’m glad I changed over my approach from Cathy Woods style speculation to a Buffet style approach to companies that actually make money. Or I would have lost my fucking shirt in 2002.

As much as I wish that economics didn’t matter, but it does.

  3. I predict at some point soon we will have a case in the Supreme Court on if AI bots are people and therefore can vote. It seems like a no-brainer if corporations are people, AI bots are definitely people!

  4. A follow up on two articles I previously posted…the bad? This is now happening…

    https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/lake-tahoe-energy-source-ai-data-centers-b2975802.html

and the good? (other than this guy being an embarrassment to WA state)

    https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2026/05/14/federal-agents-arrest-visitor-accused-throwing-rock-hawaiian-monk-seal/?fbclid=Iwb21leARyOodjbGNrBHI6fWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHla76FMleHx5VSn9jTnIGNv5LpRwiJq2KXmDtUF4Js6iAcluABIhYdPmd0L7_aem_M1gIc8BQZff2Md__IPCyvw

The guy definitely also got some Hawaiian justice at the time, you can find the video of a local kid kicking his ass & the police are not charging him w/ any crime!

  5. …oh…& if you thought maybe the professional opinion of an account going by dread pirate sex badger might not be as professional as someone who gets paid to share theirs…I could see how you might…but in this instance?

Freidman: Hey Europe. Hold your nose and join the doomed effort by our clinically insane President to open a strait that was open prior to the illegal war against Iran was launched. I am a serious foreign policy analyst.
