Hi gang! Is your job giving you a long weekend for Juneteenth AKA my birthday?

Theoretically I have the day off, but someone just threw a meeting on my calendar…

  1. Yup I get Monday off. I’m also off today because we’re going out of town for our anniversary so it’s a four day weekend for me.
    It’s really too bad that Hinckley didn’t get the job done. Would have saved us all decades of grief.

  3. Hinckley is free after a premeditated attempt to assassinate a President. Leonard Peltier is still imprisoned for the deaths of two FBI agents in a shoot out on tribal lands. A crime that even the prosecutor and judge from his trial now believe he did not commit. SMDH

    For the record I think Hinckley should have been fully released a long time ago.

  4. Happy birthday.

    Actual Juneteenth is mom’s birthday and father’s day.  Already planned what I’m going to do as my sisters are both out of town so it is just me and the parents this weekend.

    That includes no weekend OT for me as I need a break too.  I planned it that way, but I kind of regret working 17 days straight as my body is feeling beat up and my brain is basically tapioca.

  9. Ahh, no. When an employee asked on a town hall meeting a few months back, the reply from the executive on the call was “you are certainly welcome to use a personal day or vacation day to take that day off, but it is not a corporate holiday.”

    In a gross parallel to their fraudulent pivot to video, they drove publishers to completely remake their businesses, only to pull the rug out from under them.

    What remains to be seen is what this means in terms of actual quality of Facebook’s feed. I’d put good odds that less news only means more conspiracy theory rants designed to make people paranoid and afraid. Less Tucker Carlson and more anonymous Russians posing as your high school classmate just asking questions about immigrants.

    • My Never Trumper/Forever republican Aunt was getting really aggro about George Soros and Antifa for awhile and then it just stopped. Found out later that someone had hacked her FB account – so she hasn’t been on it in a few months. None of us have offered to help her get her account back  – so it’s been kind of nice to have sane Aunt around again.

      • That happens to them a lot. It’s a sign of how bad their handle on their data is that this stuff can go on for a long time and they never do anything and often don’t even recognize that a person has been replaced by a bot.

        And it’s not just political bots, either. Huge amounts of marketing traffic is driven this way, and businesses are getting ripped off because Facebook can’t manage its data.

    • Mark’s been always a weasel and runs when things go to shit (at least based on what I’ve seen in the Social Network.) I’d wish them well on their pivot to being a big challenger to 2nd Life Meta Meta, but I don’t.

    • Good luck. Sometimes the silly thing about this kind of dithering based on roles is that good organizations hire the person and adjust the role, rather than cementing in a role and then hiring based on best fit.

      It’s the same mistake sports teams often make of passing up talent because a coach has a rigid system they won’t adjust for a guy who is super talented but has short arms or whatever.

  12. Oddly, my company gave us today off for Juneteenth, rather than Monday. I asked my boss about it, just to make sure I had the right day. He was like, oh, are most people doing it Monday? So no work today, but yes on Monday.

    I worked for an hour or so anyway. But now I’m goofing off.

    • That’s the asshole I knew at Queens. He was always screaming about the rules yet never felt they applied to him.

      I have a few regrets in my life, throwing snowballs at him is not one of them.

    • …he’s not wrong…& it ought to mean a lot to some of the people who might think of voting republican as a foregone conclusion that it’s him who said it

      …but I feel like I might mention that I was a bit nonplussed by his delivery when watching the hearing & later read somewhere that he’s recovered/recovering from a stroke…because that answered a question for me?

    but i do have the day off…had today off too…figured as my boss who denied me today off last week is off sick for the long term with a torn muscle….i’d put in the same request again with the back up…and got it granted… hehehehe… im sure it’ll get added to the big book of black marks against farscy once the boss gets wind of it….but i dont care…its hot today..and the shop doesnt have ac

    anyways….no work till the fourth of july for me….suspect ill be feeling a little less festive than yous that day
