I read a headline speculating that Trump won’t go to prison because of the Secret Service requirement.   I see no reason logistical or otherwise that they can’t provide a detail on the inside.  He’d probably have to be in protective custody anyway, maybe even Supermax.  This asshole can’t be allowed to be on house arrest, can he?

   • Anybody who says that is just exposing how clueless they are. He’d be safer on the inside than at Mar A Lago.

     All they’d do is block off some rooms or else build a unit on the grounds of a facility and house him there. The specific logistics would need to be worked out, but they’re not wildly more complicated than figuring out how to set up a prison kitchen or library.

3. Last week, Ron DeSantis staffer Nate Hochman was discovered to be the creator of a white supremacist video using Nazi imagery to promote DeSantis. Hochman was not only a former National Review writer, he was a frequent source for the mainstream press and wrote opinion pieces for outlets such as The New York Times.

   This week, it turns out that another ultra right wing darling of the mainstream press, Richard Hanania, is a full on white supremacist. Hanania also was solicited to write for outlets such as The Washington Post and The NY Times.

   Writing under a pseudonym, Hanania boosted eugenics, claimed whites were genetically superior pushed against “race-mixing” and on and on. Writing openly he was barely better, arguing that feminists should be banned from Twitter and repeatedly backed a Holocaust denier.

   Hanania is also openly backed by Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, JD Vance…. it never stops. He has a book “The Origins of Woke” scheduled to be published by HarperCollins this fall.

   But two things make his welcome to outlets like the NY Times truly appalling, as their columnist Jamelle Bouie notes. One is that his own Twitter feed is barely more sanitized than what he wrote under his pseudonym. The second is that Hanania “is a fucking idiot.”

   Which underlines the absolute wretchedness of the claim of the “both sides” crowd.

   They insist that it’s somehow smart to promote the views of ultrarightist like Hanania and Hochman because is makes public debate better, but the basic fact is that they’re idiots.

   Bothsiders can vaguely pick up how awful the views of these people are — they get really defensive about promoting them when exposed. But they’re just too damn stupid to see how indefensibly dumb the ultrarightists are. Their agenda of eugenics, Nazi apologia, and the rest is just stupidity in a superficially glib wrapping. Putting them on the Washington Post and Times opinon pages doesn’t make the debate better, it just drags it down.
