Does anyone go to a mall anymore?
As someone who isn’t a fan of crowds and dawdling shoppers, I tried to avoid them when they were still the place to be. Now? I maybe go once every three months because I need something urgently and can’t wait for delivery or have a strange urge to eat mall food.
The last time I went to a mall (three weeks ago) it seemed quite a dreary place, not the open skylights but just feeling like everyone in it is marking time and waiting for closing time.
What did you like or dislike about the mall?
Speaking of mall food, do you miss any of it?
I miss deep fried North American “Chinese” food that used to be so ubiquitous. Not so much S’Barro with their over greasy pizza and way too expensive pasta. I still like going to a Laura Secord or Purdy’s Chocolate and buying some really nice chocolate bars with almonds or mint.
A simple quiet NOT for a simple quiet summer weekend.
dont really have the mall over here….
we just have shops fucking everywhere
I kind of prefer that as opposed to having to fight traffic and look for parking at big mall.
I think the last time was about a year ago when my wife couldn’t drive and needed to go to an Apple store. Now she can drive again and is on her own.
They feel really weird to me now, like some kind of Miss Havisham desperately trying to stay relevant.
That too. It’s actually kind of sad.
I wasn’t a big mall kid. Only places I enjoyed going to were the computer stores (ha), hobby shops and the food court. I spent a lot of time looking really bored while holding my mom’s purse when she went to the big store to get some stuff for the family.
I miss the chow mein and Yogen Früz at Sherway Gardens cerca the 90’s. Whenever we visited my grandmother, she used to take us there to spend the morning safely entertained in AC. We’d get to buy one book, have lunch and a frozen yogurt. I loved those excursions because it was the only time I got to buy a book of my choosing (as opposed to being limited to my neighborhood and school library selections).
I used to work at a clothing store in the Montreal underground and that killed all the “magic” of malls for me.
Now I avoid them like the Covid plague.
I miss Auntie Anne’s pretzels. I never go to the mall anymore so I don’t know if they even have one there anymore.
I used to love going to the mall. Unfortunately the stores that cut their brick and mortar presence during COVID basically took out why I went to the local mall.
Also I love NOTs, and I love that last night’s was all about beds and I was saying that thanks to previous experiences I can sleep in a hot room etc.
Because a massive thunderstorm knocked out power for like 100k people here and I’ve had no power for hours and expect to be sleeping in a hot room tonight.
There’s not a mall within at least 30 miles of me. I do kind of miss them.
