May the Fourth Be With You [NOT 4/5/24]

It’s Star Wars day for those who are fans of a galaxy far far away.

A quick quiz to see who you are in the Star Wars universe:

And another to see if the first one was wrong:

I understand why some folks (mostly white males) are upset about the turns Star Wars has made since 1983. If I were in my twenties then I might be one of them… as Lucasfilm doesn’t make their movies for me anymore as Star Wars is more of a kids ideal space fantasy (not Science Fiction!) than it is for adults. What I don’t agree with is their rage against the inclusion of the “others.” There is nothing wrong with non white folks (besides Lando or the one X-wing pilot) or women who want to be included the Star Wars universe. Sorry white CIS males, you don’t have a monopoly on movie heroes these days.

The only reason I’d be angry about Hollywood is I want something that isn’t so simple or cut and dried as good vs evil and original stories. I like complex heroes and villains because, well, real life is like that.

Today also has another meaning today as it is game 7 of the Toronto Maple Leafs/Loafs vs the Bawstun Bruins. Four wins = series. Hence May the Fourth?

“The winner will be showered with praise and the loser will be taunted till my voice is sore!” From one of the greatest Simpsons episodes ever.

Both teams have some demons to work out (more the Leafs and their fans.) To borrow a line from a pretty good sports drama on a team I’m not a fan of: Fuck Bawstun!

  1. First one said I was Kylo Ren, and you know I didn’t think I was that whiny but maybe I need to reconsider it.

Second one said I was Luke Skywalker, but that was a really hard quiz for me since I don’t really like Beatles music and I’ve never watched Breaking Bad. 2 of their questions I was just guessing on.
