Meh [NOT 20/5/23]

It is hard to get all excited about things this week. Mostly it is because I am still recovering from the nasty food poisoning I got earlier this week (Thanks restaurant chain starting with D and ending ies!) But it is also just how I feel right now… Grouchy.

Here is a list of things this week that made me go ugh:

Babylon the movie (and I wanted to like it)

My daily weekday commute

My digestive tract

The company that cancelled an interview with me (they found someone probably internal and cheap) and dropped the job salary just before they cancelled my interview. However I am glad they did as it sounds like I wouldn’t like working for someone like that.

Work… “When is it not?” You ask.

Republicans and most if not all right wing shitbags.

Nole Kums and other excessively rich shitheads who think they deserve to control the world.

The two feet of grass in my backyard I had to cut on Thurs… Also me for being too tired to cut it the week before thus avoiding this mess.

Things to be thankful for:

Despite nature trying its best to kill me, I am still alive.

That is all…

  1. Noel Kums. I had to google. God that man is insane. Oh well. I’ve never been on Twitter (or Facebook, for that matter, and certainly not TikTok) and I’m unlikely to indulge in space tourism or buy a car, EV or otherwise, so I think I am clear of the Muskiverse. Although if he buys a couple of vineyards and starts producing decent varietals I may get sucked in.

    • Eonl is mostly “Make No Whine Before Its Time.”

It is hard to imagine him as not being an insufferable prat. His youthful stories of being bullied feel hollow to me. Being bullied made me skittish and insecure. It took me a while to stop being afraid of doing things and letting my insecurities get the better of me as I became an adult. And I only suffered mild bullying.

The nloe I met in university had none of those qualities. He always was a raging asshole to everyone he seemed not “worthy”.

These are not the characteristics of someone who got viciously bullied.

      • Manchu, I *could* see Noel Skum having been bullied (at least emotionally abused, tbh!) by his shit-heel, allegedly wife-beating, stepdaughter-shagging, asshat-billionaire-mine-owning father…

The one thing I don’t understand though?

Why no one seems to be bringing up repeatedly the fact that Noel-the-Neofash with the “Right-Wing” sympathies DID grow up as a member of the richest-of-the-rich, and was born *smack dab* in the middle of apartheid-era Pretoria…

Yes, Daddy-creepiest *was* a member of the progressive anti-apartheid group!

*But* how many rich white kids were growing up in the heart of Apartheid, and pushing back against the system which gave *them* power & incredible privilege in that society?

Judging by his Twitter commentary, comments he’s made elsewhere, and his neo-fash friendship with the ‘ol Gawkerverse-destroyer, i would be highly UN-surprised to learn that Noel isn’t just *quietly* fash, but a full-out, “Should be Punched on the REGULAR!” sort, like R. Spencer (the Great Punchee) himself.

  2. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Food poisoning is rough. My anxiety is high today, I’m not sure why. I’m trying to decide if wine will make things better or worse.

      • You don’t even need Richard Simmons to be “Sweatin’ To [With] The Oldies.” Just join me in my disgrace of a home office during a heat wave when I put off turning on the air-conditioning until the last possible moment because Faithful Hound, who is my constant companion and whose crate is in here too, gets very upset by the ceiling fan, let alone the air-conditioning. And meanwhile, when we used to have snowy winters, it could never get cold enough for him, so you would think he would enjoy a little arctic chill.

I think he is a secret member of an anarcho-environmentalist group.

  3. Literary Writer Martin Amis dead at 73.

He will forever be the writer of one of the worst movies of all time, Saturn 3. The one where we saw more of Kirk Douglas naked than Farah Fawcett… And where Harvey Keitel was voiced by Roy Doltrice.

    • Oh no! I love Martin Amis’s work. And his late father Kingsley’s. With Christopher Hitchens dead, who’s going to be next? Ian McEwan I suppose. The last surviving member of that trio.

  4. I’m glad you’re feeling less shitty!

Years ago my entire family got food poisoning from a goddamn Shoney’s. We were so fucking happy a few years later when that location went out of business.

    • I had to google what a Shoney’s is. I’m starting to think it’s only going to be a matter of time before my American passport is revoked and I’m going to be forced to register as a foreign agent.

I first noticed this when Get/Out Media took over The Takeout, by the way. They were forced to start taking their name way too seriously, so it devolved into food reviews of fast-food chains that I had never heard of, frozen pizza compare-and-contrasts, the slideshows, the videos no one wants to watch, my loss of in-the-black commenting privileges (my fault for losing my log-in key; I wasn’t banned, and none of the Get/Out media sites will pull anyone into the blacks anymore, it seems), and most importantly, the loss of the very talented and very funny writers.

Speaking of being a very funny writer, I tried to verify that The Takeout predated Get/Out Media. The true history seems to have gotten memory-holed, but I did come across this communiqué from Get/Out Media’s Ministry of Truth:

We love the comments section, along with the discussions and community they foster. We take the “club” aspect of our name seriously—it’s your site too.

The “club” reference comes from the fact that Get/Out Media publishes, on The Takeout’s website, the fact that this is lifted directly from the even more sadly diminished A.V. Club’s…mission statement?

What a shitshow. But with paid online writing gigs vanishing more rapidly than the polar ice caps I suppose people take what they can get and they sign on to freelance contracts at places like Get/Out Media.

    • @brightersideoflife

I’m not “very good at the cyber,” as Donald Trump claimed his fifth child by his third wife is, so I’m going to drop this here and hope you’ll see it. I snagged, somewhat randomly, next Tuesday, the 23rd, for an NOT.

Anything to get me away from this ghastly project. And now I’m even further behind.
