Midweek Meh-Ness [DOT 1/11/23]

I hope everyone had a good Halloween if you celebrate. I see some of you got a lot of trick-or-treaters. We had quite a few; I had 4 bags of candy and have about 8 pieces left. Just enough for me to have a treat myself, without feeling too gluttonous.

  1. …so…I have shit tondo today & I can’t sit around while my mind boggles all day, all night & into tomorrow…but I was listening to this in the BBC

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001rybx

…the segment/show calls itself election countdown but it’s got a whole run of stuff about that project 25 shit…& at one point a spokesperson for the heritage foundation actually says in as many words that they’d shut down the department of education as part of slumming down the federal government

…I…fucking barely know where to start with that degree of happily running the quiet part at least loud enough to be on the record?

  2. NPR reported that beyond the family, there were also friends and his National Guard unit making calls to the police to deal with him. The cops made one “wellness check “ but he never answered the door. Now I’ve seen cops on my own street break into a house for a wellness check when the person didn’t answer. But these guys did their perfunctory knock, said “ok job done” and moved on. Because ultimately we simply cannot bring ourselves to risk offending republicans.

    • Yeah, there’s so much “accccctualllly the Second Amendment means that until you shoot someone who doesn’t deserve it we can’t even ask about your guns” energy in America. And having cops on the front lines of asking those questions of people whose opinions they probably broadly agree with mean we’ll never get reasonable answers.

  3. Mo money, mo problems, mo death.

Hint: if you’re going to leave someone because you inherited a ton of money then maybe don’t tell them until you’re far enough away to avoid getting shot or poisoned? Also, it is pretty shitty to leave your GF after getting a lot of money because you think you’re going to get supermodels (30 mil is more IG model money.)

  4. Transformed into wut?

That article has more of that odd writing.

But Trump’s four-year presidency — and the tumultuous period of investigations and criminal and civil litigation since he left office — have reshaped much of the Trump family’s wealth, business and dynamics with one another, according to court filings, financial records, emails and interviews with people close to the family.

“with one another” wut? That sentence is crying for a rewrite.

The article is long on quotes from people granted anonymity for no apparent reason to defend the Trumps, and incredibly weak on the actual evidence — it doesn’t even mention that the judge has already ruled against Trump! It’s now in the damages phase.

It takes at face value Trump’s declarations of value without considering any of the evidence that he’s been making it all up — evidence so strong the judge has already ruled the only question remaining is how fraudulent the guy is, not whether he’s fraudulent.

The financial analysis has been done in great depth by reporters like Dan Alexander at Forbes. But this entire crew of reporters has written this garbled piece by erasing endless volumes of evidence and then relying on the Trump family to tell them the story.  What a load.

    • Professor Christian
      Oh, the time has come
And you know that you’re the only one
      To say, MONEY
      Where you going
      What you looking for
      You know those lawyers
Don’t want to fuck around no more with you
      It’s true

      You’re grifting
      What’s your price to fight
In stealing from students left and right
      You’ll be massively sued tonight

    • Johnson is hiding something. I’d be stunned if he got a mortgage between $250K-$500K with no assets.

Maybe he got the mortgage by lying about assets? Maybe he has them but didn’t disclose? Maybe he got a sweetheart deal and someone else is paying his mortgage for him? This is fishy as hell.

      • I’m always amazed by politicians who strive for lofty offices but don’t seem to realize the level of scrutiny that will create for them. See also Trump, Donald J.

If you’re on the grift, it’s best to keep a low profile. That’s like Con Man 101.

  5. I got distracted reading a book last night and then forgot to watch the last 20 minutes of Pride and Prejudice, which left Netflix yesterday! Ugh! I won’t see Mr Darcy wandering the fields at dawn to see her.

Until I watch my DVD or find it on a different channel.
