Midweek Meh-Ness [DOT 11/12/24]

I’ve probably bitched about this before but year-end in my business is CrAZy!! Mainly because everyone waits til the last minute to do anything, even though we’ve been asking them since October. “Do you want to do any gifting?” “New accounts?” “Estate planning before year end?” Of course they all say no or are thinking about it til the last second. #FML

  1. I do indeed remember Peter Braunstein but Luigi Mangione is so much hotter. So, so much. That shirtless photo of him hiking in Hawaii? That’s one fugitive I would have harbored. JUST KIDDING, US INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES.

Moving right along, it would be a financial flex to move off to Riverside Drive (a friend of mine lives within a 5-minute walk of this place) but it would be so worth it. Watch the video and try not to cry.

    • Braunstein claimed he had a “brain disorder,” right? I suspect Luigi has a brain disorder too. But he’s still going to get convicted. Killing a CEO will not be overlooked.

  2. Governor Kickback has gone on another diner safari:

“We’ve heard it. I’ve seen it. I’ve talked to people in stores. And as I walk the streets and I go into diners, the cost of living is the number one concern of New Yorkers and it has been for a while.”

I wouldn’t characterize Krazy Kat as a common streetwalker but if she…

    • Off on a tangent: I am so sick of politicians “reporting” what unidentified “people” are “saying” to them.

It’s a lie. They’re not talking to anybody “on the street,” and nobody is making these stupid claims. The second I read “I’m hearing that …” then I know everything after that is a lie.

      • Yes, just like how Kickback “paused” congestion pricing because of her random convos with diner patrons (have we ever had a worse or less sincere Governor than her?) when, in reality, congestion pricing is widely reviled by citizens in the Tri-State, including a large majority of NYC residents as well. But with the midterms over congestion pricing is back. I can well foresee a looming Republican sweep. We had one starting in the 90s. 20 years of Republican mayors, 12 years of a Republican governor.

Patch Adams is on the verge of reverting to being a Republican. I’d sooner vote for a Real Housewife of NYC over him, but good luck. Clown. Move back to Fort Lee permanently with that no-talent grifting girlfriend of yours. Use your spare time to learn Turkish. Although of course once you leave Gracie Mansion they’ll want nothing to do with you, same as the Zero Bond folks.

  3. I still don’t feel anything for the death of the United Health CEO, but I’m pretty certain my feelings for  his killer will be getting there too.

Instead of some anti-hero fighting a tough fight, it just seems that society is dealing with another guy off his rocker and feeling his entitlement.

  4. If Luigi Mangione were Luis or Lamar we all know how differently this story would be playing out. Alas, there’s nobody willing to Fox-ify this into “Actually this one person tells a much bigger story” about how young men are so easily triggered into violence.

Meanwhile on Fox it’s “how DARE you LIEberals make this CRIMINAL a hero” followed by “Daniel Penny was right to kill a guy in cold blood on the subway, what a hero” which even for them is a pretty bold statement of how dumb they think their audience is.

  5. This is a really big deal in this part of the country…for now.  I am sure when Trump gets in or if it makes it to the supreme court we are screwed!

    • OB-GYNs in Texas are retiring or leaving the state and residencies are shutting down because it’s just not practical to be in Texas. And their laws don’t go as far as South Carolina.

And these penalties don’t just affect OB-GYNs either, they extend to emergency care and even routine medical care for pregnant women.

Criminal penalties put anyone assisting any medical procedure with even a paper thin connection to a miscarriage at risk of conspiracy charges. ERs in Texas are already refusing to care for women with risky pregnancies, and simple acts like driving a woman to a health center or sending a niece some cash to pay for a visit can expose people to charges.

You can bet a lot of 50 year old men right now are waving this off as not affecting them, but health care systems are a lot more interconnected than they think. It’s basically a sign of just how smart they are whether they can grasp any of this, or how gullible they are if they decide it’s not real and start babbling about how real estate prices in San Francisco or NYC will still mean doctors will go to red states.

And of course those men are too dense or wrapped up in their cruelty to understand how many other areas of private life the same ideologues want to turn to next.
