Have a great day!
Still happening and I don’t think I have cache on my phone (I’m old, give me a break).
Clearing a phone browser cache isnโt particularly intuitive. I would suggest searching online for โclearing cache on iPhone DuckDuckGo browserโ or whatever phone/browser combination fits yours.
…as butcher mentioned it can vary somewhat depending on browser/device/version (browser &/or OS)
…but by way of an example…on the thing I’m currently looking at, which would be an android device, it goes like this
– go to settings for the device
– scroll down to the “apps” section & click through
– scroll to the listing for the browser & click through
– find the line that says “storage” & click through
– look at the bottom of what’s displayed for a bit of clickable text that says “clear cache” (not the one that says “clear data” which would wipe bookmarks & passwords & stuff)
…if you want to be sure you’ve completely quit & restarted the browser you can “force close” it before you clear the cache…or navigate to clearing it after rebooting the device but before you try opening the browser
…the process is slightly different on earlier versions of android’s OS but not much…& not really the same on apple’s iOS but I imagine someone who plays with those more than I tend to could give you a similar hint?
It’s not on the phone it is in your browser settings.
…for…reasons, I assume…the way android accesses the browser cache is via the “apps” section of the device settings…so the that route is to the browser settings…which you can’t necessarily access “within” the browser the way you can on a desktop?
Thank you and I did it. Not sure if it works yet but I appreciate the patience and help.
Sigh. When I got back from my trip, I found out that my mom freaked out and tried to call the cops cause I was “missing.”
With my dad it has been a slow decline while my mom has dropped off a cliff.
Oh man, that SUCKS. Sorry you have to deal with that.
Oh no!
I’m sorry. Watching the decline is awful.
My mother-in-law has started calling in a panic about “missing things.” So far it’s been a crockpot, a blouse, and one of her phone receivers. She starts by claiming someone has been in her house and taking her things. This obviously doesn’t happen — none of the items have any value.
She later finds the items in whatever bizarre location she put them. The crock pot was in a paper bag in the living room (she’s a hoarder — there are piles of stuff and boxes in there). The blouse was in a drawer. The phone was in her bed “in case she needed it.”
But every single time, it starts with “someone has been in my house and took my ______ .”
This bizarre paranoia is so weird. Her house is a fortress (windows have been screwed down by my now-deceased FIL to prevent “burglaries” and there’s only one door in or our (the others have been disabled or blocked by piles of junk). She sleeps about 12 feet from the only door (which makes the phone in the bed even stranger since she sleeps in a recliner). Nobody could get past her to “steal her things.”
It’s even weirder because we had dinner with friends last night and one of their mothers is doing the exact same thing.
My grandmother went through something like that. Alzheimers definitely fits better with the description of dementia rather than memory loss, because it’s a much broader loss of thinking ability. It’s hard to watch it.
Pretty much
This happened with my grandmother, too. She ended up splitting from one of her friends because my grandma accused her friend of stealing an expensive necklace… Which was eventually found wrapped up at the bottom of a box of kleenex, so thieves wouldn’t find it. :-\
I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s so hard.
Wow, thatโs very scary. For you and her.
Oh dear. Hugs to you. My parents are long passed, but the memories of their decline remain clear.
I’m so sorry, Manchu, that suuuuuucks! You have ALL my empathy๐
The Ohio mounds are really interesting. There were a lot more highly organized civilizations in North America than gets commonly depicted, but it seems pretty clear the ways they operated were pretty different from the other hemisphere or even Central and South America.
RE: Cache clearing. For Android phones I recommend the AppMgr app. It sets up an automatic schedule to clear out any app data caches as well, which keeps your phone running much more efficiently. There’s a free version that I was content to use for years, and then I finally bought the paid version to better automate my processes. I also use it to make sure that any apps that can be stored on my SD card, as opposed to the phone’s internal storage, are moved there.
I know there are similar apps for iOS, but I can’t recommend one. Highly worth it, though.
One of the biggest defenders of Russian hacking in 2016….
https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/donald-trump-jr-twitter-hacked-donald-trump-dead-1235728757/
I’d note that hacking is often done by people with a personal or professional connection to the victim. Hope Don Jr. is spending more time looking over his shoulder at the crew he’s hanging out with. Does he really trust the Roger Stone types? What about his Dad’s National Enquirer crowd?
Hey, has anyone else noticed that, if you don’t log in, the site seems to have last been updated on the 18th? I was thinking of dropping a line to brightersider last night to see if she knew what was going on and why no one had posted, but as soon as I did, her NOT was the first thing I saw!
Please refer to the cache clearing comments above .
I’ve fixed that issue. It should be latest post now. Thanks for pointing it out.
For nitty gritty on the House GOP breakdown, this thread is much better on the dynamics of the GOP than anything I’ve read from major Capitol Hill reporters.
https://nitter.net/Fritschner/status/1704483048190853324
The poster, Aaron Fritschner, works for Democratic Rep. Donย Beyer.
His point is that the claims about GOP “moderates” talking about bipartisanship are headfakes. Fritschner points out how they’re ideologically on the same page as the rest of the caucus, but are thinking purely in terms of how to stay in power.
They’re opposing a shutdown for the same reason McConnell is — because it hurts the GOP brand and can cost them close elections.
This is one of the reasons why I think it’s so dumb for Hill reporters to erase Ukraine funding from the equation, because it’s one of the few major policy schisms in the GOP House caucus. A few genuinely care, more are worried what a direct vote against Ukraine will do to reelection chances in areas with a lot of voters with Eastern European backgrounds.
But Hill reporters have such narrow source pools and very little ability to think on their feet — typically they’re even worse than White House reporters, and that says a lot. And if McCarthy is keeping Ukraine quiet, the reporters just can’t mentally process it. It’s like expecting a dog to notice a traffic signal. And so they’re missing a great story of a bomb in the GOP ranks and letting McCarthy try to defuse it before it blows up.
And to followup, Democrats in Congress are yelling about the GOP sellout of Ukraine, but Hill reporters are ignoring them. Fetterman for example just said:
โIf those jagoffs in the House stop trying to shut our government down, and fully support Ukraine, then I will save democracy by wearing a suit on the Senate floor next week.โ
And he’s just one of many voices.
When Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan were in the minority, Hill reporters still ran to rehash whatever the extremist caucus was yelling about. The rationale the press used was the usual mishmash of needing to recognize minority voices, raising savvy points about fault lines among Democrats, issues the public cared about, etc.
They have all of those elements now with Ukraine funding, and they’re bending over backwards to look the other way.
Heyo, bookish friends, (specific to romance in all genres) the stuff your kindle or other e-reader with free books is on, today through the 22nd. The next freebie is on December 27th.

The NYC fossil fuel protests:
Tens of thousands in NYC march against fossil fuels as AOC hails powerful message
…meanwhile rishi sunak decided (even after the hints he might prompted ford to tell him it was a dumb idea to dither about deadlines if you’re trying to appeal to folks who want to make decisions about where to put production capacity…which has a lead-time aspect) to punt the point after which you can’t make fossil fuel vehicles five years further down the line
…because he thinks voters who read the daily mail…& presumably don’t understand the difference between new & used cars…will interpret it as him personally saving them from having to shell out for a hybrid/electric vehicle during a “cost of living crisis”
…which…by his logic…will supposedly be going strong in 2030 when that deadline would have been…instead of 2035 now
…remind me again where guy fawkes went wrong?
…asking for…a whole bunch of friends
I can’t even with these assholes anymore.
Politics is ONLY about short-term gain. Long-term yields will be sacrificed. Every. Fucking. Time.
Particularly nuts to screw electrics in the UK because the distance between most cities is easily in a single charge. London to York or Liverpool is what, 250 miles?
It’s so much denser than the US too, so adding charging stations to cover what people need shouldn’t be so hard as in, say, Kansas.
…like everywhere the trick is getting the charging infrastructure up to scratch…think I know one or two people who could afford to spring for industrial grade electrics to get an at home charger that’s in the fast category but I don’t know what kind of money that is…other than a lot
…I gather that they’ve been converting some lampposts into charging hookups which seems like a neat idea to take advantage of pre-existing infrastructure but presumably those can’t provide the speedy charging thing
…& even if the EU managed to force apple to move to a universal plug for their mobile devices it seems like cars are a long way from that kind of compatibility which doesn’t help
…but in principle you’d be right…it’s just in practice it all turns into some sort of circular firing squad scenario while dipshit tories & their fellow travellers drag their feet every step of the way…unless they’re walking that shit back when suddenly they develop a stride?
I believe most EV have a universal plug in North America with Tesla being the exception.
…I’d been under the impression there were basically two sorts…but apparently there’s four…two are for AC & the other two for DC is what I was told, although I assume the cable has to be important at some level & not just the connector because the fast charge stuff is throwing a lot of power down that line in a hurry
…that said it definitely tracks that everyone but elon settled on a standard & he tried to bigfoot his way past them in hopes of forcing everyone to make their stuff compatible with his charging network
…that’s why words like “cockwomble” were invented, I guess
…& in case I’m the only one around here who knows/remembers…this is where the womble bit comes from
Last night in Belgium & found out just before leaving Bruges, my wifeโs dad died. ย It has been a long time coming & inevitable but doesnโt make it any less sad or help with her guilt for not being there. ย At least he waited until the day after her birthday. ย With daughters scattered all over & other family dynamics it has been lots of cry inducing texting. We will be home in a few days but then more travel & stress. ย Still managed to get a few beers & smiles out of her in between the waves of guilt.
So sorry to hear that. Feeling guilty is inevitable even when it’s not correct on a purely intellectual level. The heart works in its own ways.
Really sorry to hear this, buddy. The inevitability does not dampen the sadness. I know the next few weeks will be stressful and exhausting for you all. We will be thinking of you guys.
…damn…that sucks all around…if condolences from internet strangers are worth anything she (& you) have more of those
…I imagine the beer probably helps more…so best of luck keeping those & the odd chuckle coming…& I hope the rest of it comes together as well as these things can?
Thanks, I have been giving her stronger & stronger Belgian beers to help. ย She is becoming more of a beer drinker on this trip than ever before. ย Good timing! ย Thanks for kind words. ย You people are my therapy so it helps.
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss.
I’m sorry.
Oh man the timing does makes it seem worse plus you are far from home and in a different time zone. I hope the last leg of your trip is uneventful. I’m sorry for your loss.
Very sorry for your loss, loveshaq โค
im sorry for your and your families loss
you take care now mate
