    • The Ellis deal is real, and she has real evidence to offer. I think the jury is out on Meadows though, and whether ABC’s source was pumping up his being forced to testify and turning that into actual cooperation. Did he, for example, confirm a few things that he knew prosecutors had already, but otherwise just give a bunch of I don’t recall answers?

The deal with Ellis is in the public record, but the Meadows one is based on a background source, and we know Jack Smith’s team doesn’t play that game.

One possibility is Meadows leaked this to try and shake something out of Trump, like more legal help. Another is that one of the real cooperators is trying to shiv Meadows along the way. Or it could be an attempt by Trump’s team to muddy the waters. Or maybe it’s real.

      • Yeah, Meadows looks to have kept his hands pretty clean. I don’t think there’s any smoking guns there. But the drip, drip, drip of cooperation has got to be freaking Captain Combover out. Which, good.

        • …forget where I first heard it but the proffer part of those deals involves a step some refer to as “queen for a day” where you can fess up to self-incriminating stuff they won’t take you to task over as part of explaining what you have to give them that might be worth that free pass

…but if you are deemed not to have held up your end or otherwise abused the process all that becomes fair game & you get hoist by your own petard

…meadows had a level of access that would allow for potentially significant corroboration of a fair bit of stuff that would incriminate his boss…but seems like he’d find that a very difficult needle to thread if he wants to game the process?

…like…to give them enough to be interested in offering him immunity he’d presumably have to place himself under something of a prosecutorial sword of damocles if he’s really trying to help the cheesepuff-with-a-hairpiece & not the prosecution…unless  missing something…which is very possible given the sheer profusion of charges, indictments & superseding indictments doing the rounds?

    • I feel like that should immediately void her plea deal. I mean, she’s lying, but if she was coerced then that’s a crime. Haul her back in and make her testify about “who” coerced her and how they did it. Force her to admit she’s lying and wipe out the plea bargain. Sorry, you’re going to jail now.

  1. In a little glimmer of light:

Voters soundly reject Gabrielle Hanson, other MAGA candidates in historic Franklin, Tennessee election

    https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/franklin-politics/voters-soundly-reject-gabrielle-hanson-other-maga-candidates-in-historic-franklin-tennessee-election

Franklin is the county seat about 20 miles south of Nashville, and has GOP state reps. Hanson was the subject of a bunch of pretty jaw-dropping stories. What’s possibly more telling is the slate of far right  aldermen who lost were not as weird on a personal level.

You can’t draw any big conclusions from one local election, but I think it’s a sign if voters get real, in depth information on these kooks, rather than bland one side says/the other sides says coverage, it can change elections for the better.

    • I used to live in Franklin.  When I first heard a few weeks ago about all the Nazi shit going on, I wasn’t the least bit surprised.  I am, however, surprised that the election went the way it did.  Those people are True Believers.  It was the only part of the South to see an increase in Republican votes for President in the 2008 election.

    • On the flip side of how to launder extremism, the Washington Post has decided to headline Glenn Youngkin’s proposal to ban all abortion after 15 weeks except in a handful of cases as a “limit.”

      https://nitter.net/JessicaValenti/status/1717204028625420790

The number of exceptions that would occur under the Youngkin ban are so few and far between, and so difficult to prove — good luck to a 15 year old victim of rape by her father in meeting Youngkin’s standard — that headlining it as a “limit” is completely misleading. In practice, the risks are huge for doctors who certify an abortion as medically necessary, and as a result women are forced to leave their state or country to live.

The fact that an ambulance or fire truck can park in a place where parking is banned doesn’t somehow eliminate the fact that there is a parking ban. The fact that there are empty spaces between raindrops in a thunderstorm doesn’t mean it’s not wet out.

As Valenti has documented, it’s a deliberate PR move by anti-abortion extremists, and it’s not even a new maneuver. It’s ridiculous that the Washington Post goes along.

  2. I was saving this for Braindrain but I know I’ll forget by then. An important POV/lense to keep in mind if you plan on watching Killers of the Flower Moon. The PR around the movie is that Osage communities were involved in making the film but Jacobs argues that that is not enough and I agree. Of course we live in a white patriarchy and so this is a big opportunity to have their story told to a large white American audience who otherwise wouldn’t even know about this part of our collective history.

  3. welp…my HR woman is about to be in some legal trouble for some lets call it creative book keeping

basically if you go home sick on a thursday and come back on the tuesday…congratulations…you have 5 sick days…. we never work weekends tho

doesnt immediately matter to us as we have unlimited sick time here

but..when you consider we only get the full amount of our end of years bonus if we have worked every workable day in the year (its basically workable days of year – sick days = whatevers left of your maximum bonus) having 7 day sick weeks but only 5 day work weeks starts looking like some legally dubious penny pinching

doesnt affect me personally as ive only been off sick for 2 days this year..which happened to be in the middle of the week

but a bunch of my coworkers who have had longer or more frequent sick time wasted no time going to the union lawyers….lol

if im lucky that’ll get rid of my HR woman….but probably not

    • That is a real shitty thing to do. Would be worse if she gets a percentage of the savings.

Also Trumpian because most places want to shorten sick days unless it is to their advantage.

      • whilst it wouldnt surprise me if she gets a percentage…i wouldnt know…i just expect the worst from her coz i hate her

i do know the 7 day sick week only applies to floor staff …the office has different book keeping as they just call off sick working from home….so anything short of hospitalizing them doesnt get logged
