  1. …the cheese heist is kinda wild…neal’s yard dairy started out (as the name suggests) in a fairly small place in the covent garden area that’s more or less where the monty python lot hung out back in the day

…& I know it became a pretty big business…but…the best part of half a billion bucks’ worth of…cheese?

…even expensive cheese…& at US prices…that’s more cheese that I can easily imagine

…who thinks to themselves “yeah, I reckon I could nick that”?

    • A decade ago a friend of mine told me about how a group of homeless became the supply chain for a local pizza place in Vancouver. They would steal cheddar and mozzarella as well as salami from the local Safeways. The cops were stumped as to why they only stole cheese and salami till someone pointed out that there was a local pizza place selling pizza slices for real cheap.

    • You also have to have a buyer which is tough. If you steal something like expensive cheese or wine and just show up somewhere and claim it’s the best stuff, people are immediately going to expect it’s fraud. Unless they’re involved and have a way of passing it on to people who will believe them.

The circle of people who will be able to move a limited demand item is already small, and the number of them who are interested in the risk is even smaller. I wouldn’t be surprised if police have a good idea who did it, not that they necessarily have proof.

    • This has a huge Streisand Effect feel to it, except it seems to be spiraling even wider.

It’s really adding to general sentiment that billionaires need to be held accountable and also that they’re not actually all that bright.

      • It’s definitely clear that Bezos thinks the general public is stupid enough to believe his bullshit.

Y’know, as an average citizen, I’m confronted with bullshit on practically an hourly basis. I mean, half the texts I get are scams. Nobody should have any expectation that I’m going to fall for their crap. But billionaires live in these bubbles where they don’t have to weed through all the blizzard of bullshit that we deal with every waking moment.

        • I’m sure Bezos is genuinely smart at things like supply chain logistics and creating marginal gains in efficiency. But it takes a lot of stupidity to think this type of skill is universally applicable to other areas. And that kind of bubble brain worsens this problem.

      • I have another good Irish video for you:

I have actually taken RyanAir. As long as you know what you’re doing you won’t get hit with all the nuisance fees and taxes. They’re notorious for dumping you at small regional airports hundreds of miles from anywhere, but when we flew to Rome (from London; this was not a transatlantic flight and there’s no way I’d risk that) they actually flew into Ciampino, which is closer to Rome and much less chaotic than Leonardo da Vinci. And there was a handy RyanAir-provided shuttle that took us to Termini, Rome’s central train station, where we were immediately set upon by taxi touts and Roma (the gypsies) but we fought our way through and arrived at our hotel safe and sound.

I love Italy and go back whenever I get the chance but often you have to stiffen your spine and “just say no.”

  2. “Harris tries to paint contrast” is some cheesy editorial action by CNN.

Over and over Trump and Vance are portrayed in headlines as active agents who attack. The neutral phrasing for this headline would at least be something like “Harris speech draws contrasts….”

Yesterday’s DOT had good examples of how Harris is regularly held to a much higher standard than Trump, whose rallies by default are assumed to be effective and inspiring to his followers, but everywhere she goes the framing is asking whether she can do it.

    • Cruz is in deep shit in Texas. Polls are showing it’s pretty much tied, which actually means Allred is ahead. Please, Santa, all I want for Christmas is for Cruz and Rick Scott to lose.

  3. ….its hard to believe these people are real

i’d accuse them of being paid actors….. but i feel like thats gonna be the first step towards Qanonsense

might be no coming back from that
