    • The whole selling point for the GOP of the antiabortion crusaders was that they were supposed to be the die hard committed ones. The press bought into it — it’s the undergirding of the whole Ohio diner narrative. “They” all believe the same things, and move in lockstep. Nothing ever changes, and all reporters had to do was keep pumping out the same story.

Part of the appeal for DC and NYC editors and reporters was that it was doubly patronizing. Ohio voters were just a bunch of unsubtle sheep, and liberals were dummies who didn’t accept the cold hard reality that the political pundit class saw.

The crusaders won’t stop, but the GOP will want the message to be that they are moderating now. And just like last year after the right wing Justices threw out Roe v. Wade, we’re going to get tons of stories about anguished debate on the right and lessons learned. They’ll try to shift the narrative elsewhere. But the crusaders won’t stop.

      • Forced birthers are die hard and committed. The actual problem for them is that there are not as many of them as the Republicans would like to believe. The actual forced birthers are a subset of the overall Republican vote, and they pick up some on the margins because Republicans generally have an attitude of “fuck you I don’t care what happens to you” so compassion is out. GQP politicians believe nothing and are simply crassly manipulating the simple-minded.

But the forced birthers have a difficult time recruiting outside of evangelical whack bags. If you’ve ever talked to any (unfortunately I have) they quickly devolve into incoherent rage where they start spittle-flecked screaming about “saving the babies” and “closing the abortuaries.” Anybody remotely normal is immediately put off. So yeah, they’re committed, but their message does not resonate with anybody who is mentally stable.

Republicans are backing losers, is what I’m saying. That dog won’t hunt.

        • The polling has been there for years about what repeal of Roe v. Wade would mean. But reporters who are on the ground understand that the antiabortion crusaders have taken over state legislatures and GOP organizations to such a degree that moderation just isn’t happening. Even if a GOP legislator doesn’t care about abortion, if they want a bridge repaired in their district they have to toe the line.

DC and NYC based reporters and editors don’t understand any of this, and depend on GOP consultants to tell them what’s happening, and of course the consultants will spin stories about serious soul searching going on. They really, really don’t want state parties breaking up, so they’re going to keep trying to paper over the issues. And to a large extent the national political press will ignore what local reporters are seeing because they don’t want the Ohio GOP to be anything more than eight old white people in a suburban diner.

          • Basically supporting your position:

Not just Trump: The Ohio abortion vote exposes the bitterness fueling the GOP war on democracy

For decades, Republicans had bamboozled the press into believing that the country was “bitterly divided” over abortion. Mainstream media misled Americans into believing that this was practically a 50/50 issue nationally and that abortion rights were deeply unpopular in the red states. Responsible pollsters kept trying to correct the narrative, pointing out that strong majorities of Americans believed it should be a right. But Republicans and their handmaidens in the “both sides”-obsessed press kept relying on shoddier polls that used ambiguous or misleading language to exaggerate the opposition to abortion. Republicans started to believe their own B.S., convincing themselves that the public, at least in red states, would be fine with abortion bans.

      • Dobbs was the worst thing to happen to the GOPers, second only to electing Donald Trump.

This is why the smarter GOPers would dangle the borshun carrot at election time only to take it away post election because they knew that they couldn’t get their 1%er tax cuts and subsidies otherwise. Very cynical, but we know that the majority of GOPer voters are dumb as fuck.

  1. I live in a mostly white area, and I have tried to bring up the dock fight, but for some reason, these fight living, hooping and hollering white folk are a bit tight looked about it. Just some grumblings about society collapsing and shit, ha ha.

    • Disregard a reserved spot for a big boat, start a fight with a guy just doing his job and get beat down for it.

Sounds about right. Seems like dipshit boat motherfuckers felt they were entitled to park their boat anywhere they fucking goddamned wanted to.

  2. I realize as an alum of the University of Alabama that I am inherently biased against dipshit Tommy Tuberville.

But that motherfucker sucked as a football coach towards the end of his career despite having decent players on the team.

Like at no point in the last 15 years should anyone have been like wow that dude has enough brain cells to do any job well.

  3. More Florida fun.

Florida schools drop AP Psychology after state says it violates the law

If you haven’t been following the College Board refuses to award AP credit for any schools that don’t teach the course in its entirety, including sections on gender and sexuality. So schools are dropping it because that violates the new “don’t say gay” law.

The Education Commissioner Manny Diaz is now saying that schools can teach the course. In the immortal words of Admiral Ackbar, it’s a trap. They’ll drag some teachers out of their classrooms and prosecute them to set examples.
