Have a great day!
Melissa deRosa is/was more than a “top aide” to Cuomo: she was Bonnie to his Clyde. In the AG report chronicling Cuomo’s foul crimes the Cuomo name is mentioned exactly 187 times. That of deRosa? 187 times.
If I were deRosa I might now be googling the term “no extradition treaty US”
And I agree: Truffles!
100% this. She wasn’t the most publicly vocal of his cadre, but she was the hatchet woman. Not a great sign for him! But unsurprisingly, he’s going to shamble on like a zombie who’s not killable by conventional means.
Apparently Lt. Gov Hochul (who?) has been receiving all sorts of advice and counsel. To date she has spent more time attending more ribbon cuttings than Queen Elizabeth herself, but her phone must be ringing off the hook. I think she should just do a housecleaning, like Biden did, starting at the top and slowly but surely digging out the deadwood and the otherwise unemployable, but then who would replace them? More of the same, probably. The dogs bark, and the caravan moves on…
She is from Buffalo though (not exactly a paragon of civic virtue) and will be the first governor from north of wherever Pataki was from in many decades, so that might be kind of refreshing. I wonder if she’d be neutral about NYC and just leave us alone, as Pataki mostly did? Cuomo, though a native son, seemingly loathes the city, and de Blasio often doesn’t seem to realize that he is the Mayor of New York, so maybe a new day will dawn.
Lt. Gov. is the same golden cage that being VP is. Hochul seems alright, so I assume she’ll be shoved out of the way for whatever turd the party wants, though “a woman to replace a sex creep” is the sort of narrative that makes a party apparatchik tingle in the right places.
And I wouldn’t get too comfortable, as Eric Adams is going to be a problem.
Adams, yes, well…but now that it’s so widely known that he commutes in from Fort Lee (NJ) I assume once he’s installed in Gracie Mansion he’ll be all over the place, riding subways (something de Blasio never did, God forbid), patronizing restaurants (ditto), performatively cycling around, who knows, he could be the next coming of Ed Koch. Ed Koch was a law ‘n order guy too and I don’t have the stats to back this up but it does like the tenor of the city is very late 70s, minus the cheap rents. Because of the pandemic we did experience a (small) wave of white flight flight, especially among parents with children in the already-failing and now effectively closed public schools. The subways definitely deteriorated; I and everyone I know have first-hand experience with that, and that predated the pandemic by about five years. The trash doesn’t get picked up like it used to: as a frequent dog-walker I often have a little (eco-conscious, biodegradable) bag that I need to dispose of, and at least half the trash cans in the neighborhood have disappeared and the ones that remain overflow.
We’ll see.
The “No, no the state has control of the MTA” fight is maybe the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in NY politics — and as you know, that is REALLY saying something. Cuomo doubled up on the problem by a) fighting to keep control (which of course, literally the only move he knows) and b) slashing taxes all over the place to ensure the money would never be there. It’s so stupid, all of it.
I’d like to think Adams would figure out that people actually want a mayor who makes basic shit work (plowing, trash, policing) but I just have a feeling he’s going to try to only make one of those work by spending a squidillion bucks on it and ensuring that nothing else can work by doing it.
We really ought to place more importance on knowing our Lt. Gov. following Spitzer’s downfall and the sudden elevation of Paterson. A Lt. Gov. is often treated as a Coast Guard/Reserves type gig, but they’re more likely to take the executive job than a Veep is.
I’m fully expecting Florida to be a COVID bloodbath as schools open and kids get sick. DeSantis seems to be a complete megalomaniac, who’s determined to stay the course on his utterly failed pandemic policies.
I’ve said it before, but when we start seeing pictures of little kids on ventilators, shit’s going to hit the fan here.
Related:
Another day, another record high for hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Florida.
Will there be pictures of little kids on ventilators though? Unless a family specifically brings in a reporter and signs a HIPAA waiver (and the hospital allows the reporter on the premises at all), I don’t see how that happens. I work for a hospital and they are VERY touchy about letting media in for anything that their PR department hasn’t directly set up and sanctioned.
I saw one of a little kid on a vent on twitter and it was so freaking sad.
It goes really fast, you don’t realize how fast kids breath, so it like shakes the whole bed/kid. I’m definitely scarred!
It’s more social media than actual news outlets. The families will do take pictures and post them all over social media. That honestly has more reach than newspapers these days. They’ll be setting up GoFundMes and other crowdsourcing to defray medical expenses, and they’ll be happy to talk to reporters and provide them with pictures. These days it’s rare that reporters go anywhere. Mostly it’s all over the phone. Hospitals can’t stop family from snapping cellphone pictures. And if they think it will help raise money, families will sign HIPAA waivers too.
Wealthy families won’t do that, but poor families? Yes, they will. And since that’s a huge chunk of Floridians, and they all go to public schools, it will blow up fast.
Yeah, I just tipped my hand again to show that I am an Old Person. The social media thing never once occurred to me–of course I avoid social media like the plague that it is.
I’m old too but since I worked in marketing for many years I had social media shoved down my throat. I use it sparingly but I have accounts for most of the channels. Generally speaking it’s a limited marketing tool but companies embraced it like the Second Coming.
I’ve been out of marketing for four years or so but up until then it was difficult to find any evidence of a solid return on investment for social media, particularly in financial industries where I worked. One of the reasons I got out of marketing is because I’m old and employers didn’t believe that I a) understood and could use social media and b) found it largely ineffective. It’s very passive and slow to take effect. But they assumed I wasn’t doing it “right” because I’m an old. And most of them don’t have the resources for massive adword campaigns.
Note: I’m defining social media as specific platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, not company websites and email promotion programs. Those do work.
Yeah, Mrs. Butcher did marketing for a long time and eventually stopped getting work because she was deemed not sufficiently “getting it” because her primary method of marketing was direct mail and they all saw that as a dead end loser. The problem with that assessment, however, was that she did all the design and campaign development herself and her direct mail campaigns had ridiculously high impression rates. Still, it wasn’t Hip and Edgy, so nobody wanted it anymore. Since then she’s been working for a retail franchise as a salesperson and eventually took over a bunch of their marketing instead of pulling the cookie cutter shit from the corporate office, and they’re making money hand over fist.
It played out similarly for me. I was a copywriter, took some design classes on my own initiative, and basically could take a campaign from start to finish. Sort of a one-man marketing department. Events, ads, direct mail, videos, I did it all. I got hired and worked at a bank and after a couple of years they hired a VP 20 years younger than me who started campaigning for my removal. I saw the handwriting and found another job. Two years ago they emailed me and asked if I would consider coming back. The VP cost them a lot of money and didn’t increase business so they let her go.
@bryanlsplinter – honestly I completely call bullshit on people caring about kids on vents
We don’t do anything when kids get shot up at their schools except thoughts and prayers. We already know their lives don’t matter over adults’ “freedom”.

Trump allies refusing to help Rudy Giuliani with his legal woes: report
Funny enough, my whole morning has been about coffee. Had to order some cold-brew, and then had to run out to get beans for the hot stuff. I am now stocked up and ready for the End Times.
I am an awful person, because I am cheering for Covid against the loudest anti-vaxxers. The world will not miss Dick Farrel and will be improved by his absence.
Me too. I hope so many of those fucking imbeciles die of Covid that their collective stupid is eventually wiped off the face of the Earth. Those people are literally killing others with their BS.
Literally dying to own the libs.
This is what’s known as an “I’ll show me.”
