It’s great that crime is down and these stats should be repeated — but the problem is it doesn’t really matter what the crime stats are. Otherwise the idea of combining “I back the blue” and “I’m voting for the convicted felon” would make people’s brains explode rather than be the base strategy of one of the two major parties in America.
So long as people feel afraid (which, not hard to do!) and that fear sits at a nexus with racism — which is baked into how most Americans see “crime” — then it doesn’t matter if the crime rate is down 2% or 99.99%. Just its existence, and literally any picture or video of it anywhere at any time in the entire world, will make it “an issue” for reactionaries to pounce on. (And why three purses being snatched for $71 in losses in New York City means we must send forth the National Guard but white-collar crime costing us billions is never a problem that requires forceful solutions.)
I can’t speak for suburbanites and Fox brained people, but I think the major drop is definitely being noticed in places like Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Detroit. That’s going to have an impact on turnout in Democratic strongholds.
St Louis is down a lot too, but the area always reliably went super blue in our shithole red state anyways.

I’m intrigued by Trump fans who can see through some lies but not others. It’s a weird sort of selective blind spots. But apparently there are some.
To be faaaaaaaaiiiiiiir many of them did say “look you can just say it’s paid crowds or they were there for a concert or something else” so it’s not like they’re not still completely delusional lol
This is purely anecdotal, but living in Trump country and having just spent a weekend with my Trumpy relatives, I feel like there’s a serious deflation among them. It’s like they’re resigned to losing again. My relatives didn’t attempt to confront me about politics. Of all the MAGAs in my neighborhood, there’s one guy flying a Trump 2020 flag. Nobody else is bothering with signs, old or new. Usually when the first one goes up the others are emboldened to start displaying their crap, but not now. The assholes who put up big 6 foot signs in their backyards aren’t bothering to do it.
It could change as we close in on the election, but there’s a definite lack of fanaticism right now. It’s like they’ve given up.
There’s a guy a couple of miles from me with a literal semi trailer with “TRUMP” painted on it parked in the middle of his field, flanked on either end by a giant flag. Perfectly normal behavior.
Driving around in exurbs where there were a lot of those displays in 2020 and 2016, I’ve noticed a big drop.
Some of that is probably due to whathe’s done to the party organization, especially since 2020. I think there’s an interesting contrast to the Democrats, who saw Biden struggling to unite the party and came up with a replacement with a minimum of drama.
It was clear to objective observers by late 2020 that Trump had huge negatives for the party but the best they could manage was Ron DeSantis.
Said before, said again: TV shows just get stale over time and his show’s Season 9 vibes are very much “last season of Game of Thrones” right now. The finale is on pace to be worse than “How I Met Your Mother.”
Also: These are the flimsiest people imaginable. They were sure they were gonna win easily and their Big Wet President was gonna ban skin tones darker than “Irishman in the sun” from coming to America etc. etc. and as soon as things didn’t go their way they’re completely wrecked and clueless (just like their leader.) They get called “weird” one fucking time and it’s like their entire ego structure collapses in on itself. Truly enjoyable stuff!

NBC kept it in their lineup for years because Jeff Zucker was absolutely incompetent at developing new shows. It’s a characteristic that he shares with all of the other cost cutting execs. None of them could recognize a star or good story if their life depended on it.
