Monday Mood [DOT 18/11/24]

Hiii! Hope everyone had a good weekend. My trip out west was pretty fun, but it was a lot of schmoozing and a lot of work. And naturally I caught a cold on the way home so now I feel like crap.

  1. I suspect that it was because most folks wanted Iron Lung Mike to bust Jake Paul’s face, but the guy’s not fighting anyone who is in their prime and has top notch pugilistic skills.

I know Jake would kick my ass, so let’s get that out of the way, but Mike Tyson is 60+ years old, more than twice his age. Instead boxing took a page from the WWE. Oh the injuries and stuff is real, but the outcome was already predetermined. And like Jake Paul is going to fight anyone with real talent and in their prime.

Jake Paul, The Great White Hopeless.

  2. SHOCKING really. White Power tattoo? No shit. Thanks W, for putting the US into a pointless war and allowing a lot of white power dumbshits access to top secret intel and/or firepower.

  3. That bear story is hysterical. The costume looks like it was bought off Temu. And the kicker is that they did the same scam like two times previously and insurance paid them.

  4. I guess there is hope for us single olds.

My mom used to freak out when I joked about how I was the OG prototype of the Korean male millennial because I played a lot of video games, wasn’t married at 25 (or later) and no kids.

  5. I gotta say the Tyson/Paul fight seeming to be so popular — and I never totally trust any streamer’s numbers so big grain of salt, YMMV, etc, but I saw it talked about plenty — sure had some big fucking bread and circuses at the Coliseum as the empire fell energy. A little too on the nose, I guess, is all I’m saying.

    • The followup buzz is how bad it was. People at least went back to see Leopards vs. the Visigoth Women parts II, III and IV. Nobody wants to restream this, or watch a rematch.

If Trump gets bad enough, I would not be surprised if the unexpected consequences mean sports stadiums and arenas struggle to operate or even shut down. People don’t want to think about how much they depend on immigrant labor directly and indirectly.

      • The followup buzz is always like that, though, and people still keep coming back. Boxing’s a great example of this — it was THE biggest event sport for decades and it’s been a mess of corruption and nonsense and lousy fights and 37 belts … and millions of people still tuned in for good celebrity boxer vs. 30-years-past-his-prime former champ. Because reality TV still sells no matter how bad it is!

        • Boxing’s audience has shrunk like crazy. It used to broadcast on network TV. Then when big matches dried up, it used to headline on HBO. But even that’s rare now. It’s just not drawing those numbers anymore.

This is the best they could do, and there’s nobody with Tyson’s name recognition left for any followup fights. This really wasn’t what they wanted.

      • It’s going to hit the food chain and construction industries here. Once people start getting rounded up, the rest will scatter. Farmers have already been complaining they can’t harvest crops.

I personally plan to price a new roof and see if I can make it happen before Trump takes over. The roofing industry will be decimated.

        • And the thing is that the businesses which should know better are actually clueless about just how screwed up things can get.

You see Trump signs in front of auto dealers, and the owners just can’t get their heads around how many dependencies they have on warehouses and just in time manufacturing and delivery. There’s no way to know how immigration crackdowns will reverberate, and none of it is precise.
