Happy Monday to you! Well, unless you are Chuck the cat who is going in to get neutered this morning. He is most displeased.

Have a great day!
The Lions’ loss is 100% on Dan Campbell. He kept going for it on 4th and long like a compulsive gambler instead of taking the field goal points. Each time they turned the ball over and SF got a TD out of it. Instead of 34-31 SF, he could have won 37-20 Detroit.
The people defending Campbell by saying he was “doing what got us here” should be saying he was “doing what cost us 3 regular season wins.”
Although, Myo, as a resident of the NFC North?
Honestly, the Lions getting even *this* far, was petty arn Awesome, compared to the Lions of the past….. what 20 or so years?
I’m BUMMED they lost & SO stupidly, but also pretty darn Happy that they made it SO far, in comparison to the last sooooooo many years.
What he did also cost them the #1 seed.
I have something: The Piebald Squirrel!
This is a wonderful site but its owner/creator is often accused of NIMBYism and a yearning for a New York he never knew, since he only came to New York…I forget when, but during the lockdowns he chronicled what was closing and talk about its heyday in the 1970s or something, but in a way that implied he had lived through it himself.
That’s a very particular New York phenomenon. I, for example, think I would have loved to live in Manhattan as an adult during the “Mad Men” era, warts and all. I’ve had conversations with people who have told me, “The 1980s! So did you go to CBGBs?” [Yes.] Or, “Wait, what’s a video bar? You stood around and watched music videos?” [Yes.] “You had a one-bedroom apartment with an eat-in kitchen that you got through The Village Voice classifieds, paid $750 a month, and there was no broker’s fee?” [Yes.]
Sorry to bore you with that trivia. I’m lucky in that even at the time I was living through it I knew how lucky I was. Happy as a clam, every day a new adventure, loved my job, loved my coworkers. It’s also so easy to make friends in New York. New Yorkers are not exactly “aloof.” I had dozens and dozens of them. Everyone has dozens and dozens of stories and everyone loves to kvetch. Kvetch is a Yiddish word meaning “to complain” but it might as well have been coined by the original Dutch settlers, because apparently they were kvetching from the moment they came ashore in 1624. Four hundred years of kvetching. I should get in touch with the New-York Historical Society or the Museum of the City of New York and see if they’d like to mount an exhibition about this. I could narrate the interactive audio-visual display.
Ooo, did they play the uncensored version of “Girls on Film” at these video bars? They had to have played the uncensored version of “Girls on Film” at these video bars.
I vividly remember that the first time I heard Markie Mark’s “Good Vibrations” was at a gay video bar because all activity came to a halt so that we could ogle him. I also went to a video bar in Paris (not gay) and I felt like the most sophisticated creature on earth but I can’t remember what we watched. Europop, probably.
I have Patrick Mahomes fatigue. Dude is on my fucking television every 10 minutes. Get new PR people, man. Overexposure is a thing.
Lemmy, you just need to hang outvover at Buzzfeed more.
There’s hardly ANY Patrick Mahomes over there!
You maaaaaay get tired of alllllll the Travis Kelce/TSwift “news” though😉💖
I was deeply disturbed to see that his doppelganger Eric Andre was also doing ads yesterday for Drumstick ice cream cones.
Wishing a speedy recovery to No-Buck Chuck. (A Trader Joes joke. Good lord.)
Maximum sympathy will occur if we get the recovery photo of Chuck in a cone.
Conservative apostate David French on the recent sex abuse settlement involving the Southern Baptist leader Paul Pressler and the church in general:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/28/opinion/pressler-sex-scandal-sbc.html
Pressler raped and assaulted multiple boys and young men, and the Church overall had hidden hundreds of cases of sex abuse.
French uses the case to argue that the right’s overwhelming focus on Hollywood scandals like the Harvey Weinstein case while ignoring scandals like the Southern Baptist case are used to promote a sense of superiority and paranoia.
I agree, but I think it’s worth adding that the lack of attention to scandals on the right isn’t just as conservative media problem. It’s an establishment press problem too. It wasn’t just Fox News which buried the Southern Baptist story, it was French’s outlet The NY Times and essentially every other major outlet.
Overwhelmingly the political press decides that a scandal doesn’t have legs unless the right says it does. That doesn’t mean that the political press takes up every right wing cause. But if the GOP goes into a hidey hole, the way they do every time there’s a mass shooting or a Trump scandal, the political press feels it would be unfair to pursue the story on their own.
As soon as there is a major scandal, the spin starts where political reporters seek out the most rabid conservatives, find a bunch of rabid conservatives, and then reports that as news and closes the books on the matter.
What the local press coverage of the Southern Baptist abuse story shows, though, is that reporters who are willing to go past superficiality can find plenty of people who don’t fall into the rabid apologist camp. But any chance of serious reform withers when the national political press decides by default that nothing will change based on nothing but the vibes they get from people with a vested interest in seeing nothing change.
It’s not just the RC church either. It’s ALL of them. The rector of the church I went to (mentally kicking and screaming) was the creepy sort who hung around teen girls which I thought was weird, but now a bit less naive… it’s pretty gross.
No shit Sherlock!

Why isn’t he being strung up on charges? If any one of us did then the government would have our various organs in a sack.
The various levels of government must have the same kind of fear those various Valvalde cops have against a nutter with an AR-15. Easy to push around and intimidate unarmed nobodies like us, but when it’s a “rich” celebrity with resources… well, we have to be careful and they pussy foot around while he gets away with it.
Sorry Chuck, but it’s for the good of environment that you don’t go around impregnating every female cat you want.
My friend didn’t neuter his young dog and had to pull him apart from a friendly female dog (who was in heat!) to everyone’s amusement (not his or his dog or the female dog’s owner) recently at the dog park.
