    $27 million later and they found absolutely nothing. I will say, though, this report is pretty damning to Hunter Biden’s candidacy and I do think that should be the news cycle for the next few months until he finally gives up his crazy run for the presidency … wait, I’m being handed a note here …

    • The $27 million was well spent. According to wiki, and this info might be a little old, five of the richest seven counties in the US are in the DC area. The other two are Silicon Valley CA counties. Doing “the people’s business” does not come without a price!

      • I’m not quite sure what that has to do with this, but in this day and age, you can get dick picks for free just by being a woman on the internet. You don’t even have to ask for them or want them! Spending $27 million on them just seems a little much from the “party of fiscal responsibility.”

        Also: NY County not on that list? I’m suspicious.

        • New York County/Manhattan has a lot of housing projects, some huge proportion of the rental units are rent-controlled or rent-stabilized, and we have tons of senior citizens. If you’re in that milieu you don’t need a lot of money to live here. For every Bloomberg there must be 10,000 people living off public benefits and Social Security (or, the local favorite, SSDI.)

          • I was curious so I looked, they ranked it by median income and under that metric, Manhattan is indeed well outside the top 10.

            If you rank it by per capita income, though, NY County is No. 1 by an enormous amount. The gap between it and No. 2 (Arlington, VA) is the same as the gap between Arlington and No. 19, Nantucket. Not sure which is a better measure.

            • It’s the 10,000 : 1 Bloomberg phenomenon. Say there’s a feudal village with 10,000 residents. All of them are lucky to pull in $100 a year. Except for the feudal lord, who pulls in $1 billion from their labor. The median income is about $100 a year, because that’s what everyone makes minus one. The per capita income is much higher because the lord’s $1 billion gets thrown in there. The per capita income rises to $100,000.

              • Sure, but the billion dollars is still there! And obviously NY has hundreds of thousands of more residents than many of those other places so if density matters — as always YMMV — that is a nod toward average incomes vs. median incomes. Falls Church is one of the highest median income places in America; it has 5,000 residents, so by comparison, the amount of wealth there is barely a drop in New York’s bucket. (Similarly Nassau County is richer than NY County and by median income I believe it, but I don’t actually believe it in real life.)

    • Or one can look at from the point of view that 27 mil to make Jamie Comer look like a big bugfuck dumb goober is a small price to pay.

      • They have a bunch of members who are scared of losing their seats and want to be home campaigning. The ideologues in safe seats are insisting they stay in DC to chaseghouls only they can see.

        • Absolutely. It’s another Trump battle. He needs buttery mails, and the members in safe seats are desperate to give them to him. As for the others, well, these are Republicans. They only bow down and kiss one orange ass. So they’ll lose seats trying to appease an orange blob of grease and hair product.

          • Some of them are choosing Option C, which is quiet quitting.

            They don’t commit to flying back to DC for votes, they don’t bother campaigning hard, they spend their time tweeting memes and watching college football.

            That’s a big problem for the GOP, which would benefit more from  activist opposition in the party than passive aggression.

            • To be fair, that’s pretty much what Captain Combover is doing. So they’re taking their cues from the top.

              I read a skeet today that said something like, whatever else you can say about JD Vance, he’s out there trying.

      • The Minnesota subreddit has been a HOOT, lately!

        The fact that, *apparently* Republicans don’t grok Minnesota humor at all, has been cracking *most* of us up😉

        With Walz’s Turkey (it’s a vegetable) Tater-Tot Hotdish recipe being called a “Hotdish,” yet him joking about the “White Guy Tacos,” because he’s supposedly the type of Minnesotan (Nebraskan?) for whom ground pepper is “spicy!”, we’re crackin’ UP, up here, as R-side talking heads are freaking out about the use of chile peppers and taco seasoning😆😂🤣

        What those R-side talking heads don’t *understand*, is the old explanation;

        A casserole is the DISH one *cooks* the Hotdish *in*😉

        • I got it. I used to tease/ask my melanin challenged friends about spicy.  I’d ask “Do you want it white person hot or brown/yellow person hot?” Yes, I do know that there are some white folks who love hot spicy food and there are some of us (like my dad now) tinted folks who eat very bland food, but I find the question to be more valid than not as I don’t know know what everyone considers “hot and spicy” so it is a good idea to ask.

          The white guys who usually get deeply offended are usually those who think I’m questioning the size of their manhood (I didn’t ask, but I know now.)

    • It’s kind of like he did during CoVID running his mouth off and ranting/raving about people with tears in their eyes.

      He’s not where my mom was last year, but his mind is going.

      • I start to wonder if he’s ever spoken to anyone who didn’t have tears in their eyes.

        Trump’s getting that from all sides thanks to his use of unauthorized music.

        I loved my Dad, but I *don’t* miss that constant need to be on alert-mode, to keep him safe, and I’m SO grateful for his Nursing Home staff, that last year!💖

    The problem isn’t just with reporters, to be clear. Most are hired to file horse race stuff and their daily assignments from editors are to file this stuff. Any policy questions have to be squeezed into the margins.

    What’s dumb about the self righteous framing of “where’s the policy?” is that there is no self awareness from the editorial caste and the pundits that they have created a system which actively attacks good faith policy discussions.

    When top NY Times editor Patrick Healy was a reporter, he decided to file a long news article on the “Clinton cackle” and he’s driving a focus on trivia today. Peter Baker got front page articles celebrating Trump’s supposed energy on stage which avoided any mention of policy.

    But sure, the problem is with Harris.
