Monday Mood [DOT 25/11/24]

Hope everyone is doing alright. I’m deep in MAGA land and you know what, these people are fucking stupid. Sorrynotsorry. Someone told me they were against Harris because they think women are getting abortions for funsies at 8 months. Another said that Kamala talked too much about working at McDonald’s. And yes the transgender attack ads hit the jackpot here.

Their lives are crap and Donald is here to make them crappier. Ugh.

I gotta run to Wal-Mart and get a new monitor. The one I bring for travel did not survive the trip and it’s gone all fuzzy. Have a great day!

  1. How can you Trump proof democracy when a significant number of voters (like the ones MegMegMcGee encountered) are so fucking stupid?

But seriously, they can’t even say they didn’t want to vote for the Black/Indian Lady because Black/Indian Lady aka Racist/Sexist?

    • Yeah, they just don’t say it. The only reason the transgender stuff hits is not because they hate transgender folks specifically but they know it’s not socially acceptable to be a raging racist or sexist or homophobe but trans acceptance isn’t as widespread (yet) so that’s still the OK bigotry to share.

      • They do, online. If anyone plays any video games online, they scream it. Sexist, racist and bigoted shit, all day long. It’s insane. That was my first inclination things weren’t how they seem. So many gamers, young and old, men(boys, but some men) and some women (that play nba2k anyway) spew so much hate etc. through ignorance.

        • Oh for sure, in anonymous spaces or to their buddies, they definitely say all of it. But public-facing, they’re way less likely to be openly shitty because — funny enough — they’re actually well aware they’ve lost that part of culture war and it deeply offends them.

But also, broadly, America’s really really really f’n racist and sexist! A lot of this country is built on both of those things and even people who are trying not to be racist almost have to be deprogrammed from some of that stuff that the majority of this country still kinda think. I don’t think the average American is in favor of the KKK, but I also don’t think they have considered the idea that, like, the justice system might be built on white supremacy or that cops are upholders of that ideal, etc.

    • I also take a little from most bad bosses I’ve ever seen in my life, who inevitably hire yes men and/or people who are just like them and run in their circles. There are certainly strategic reasons why Elmo and Trump hooked up, but it’s also a bit like looking into a mirror for the other.

    • There are astounding accounts of how utterly insane the neocons were as they tried to create their capitalist utopia in Iraq after the invasion. A good one is Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone

      https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Life_in_the_Emerald_City

The people involved were ideologues out of the same think tanks that wrote Project 2025, young Republicans straight out of college who had never done anything in their lives, and a corps of grifter operators who knew how to tell hacks like Rumsfeld, Paul Bremer and Paul Wolfowitz what they wanted to believe.

They were aided by a press establishment that was eager for the reconstruction to be a utopia too, and credulously passed on the glowing reports.

All of the attempts to create an Iraqi DMV and a Trading Places-style commodity exchange failed because they simply couldn’t force Iraqis to implement systems that made no sense. Iraqis just hunkered down and let black markets take over.

Something similar may hapen here, where places like hospitals get insane requirements for financial systems and simply refuse to implement them.  Except the problem here is when hospitals hunker down, they quit serving patients. Black markets can distribute bread and light bulbs, but if you’re a patient needing complex treatment, you get an amputation instead, or no care at all.

And that’s just one sector of the economy. Nobody can force Taiwan to ship chips, or poultry workers to perform their jobs, or credit card companies to handle transactions. And what happens if they don’t?

      • …a while back some work was done on all the various pockets around the world where certain laws & regulations that are elsewhere enforced are made exceptions for…from things like “free ports” all the way to effectively lawless zones…might even have lobbed a bit or two in some DOTs

…the green zone might have made more of a splash than some but in a lot of ways it isn’t the outlier it can appear to be…in some ways it didn’t even get to the point some do…which…is not fun to think about

        • Milton Friedman’s son is an even more extreme libertarian and an absolutely clueless contrarian loon. He tried to make the case that Somalia under the warlords was a wonderful free place because…..

…. and here is where the contrarian ethos fails, because there wasn’t a case to be made, so he finally settled on the availability of cell phones as an indicator.

Bu the eagerness of right wing PhDs like him to push (and accept) these narratives is scary stuff. They drive the choices of leadership for all kinds of agencies and offices at the sub-cabinet level, and they can do incredible harm. They drive things like the Kochs fanatic push to defund vaccine distribution in underdeveloped countries, and it left governments for billions of people scrambling to deal with Covid.

It’s all abstract games for these people, and they don’t care who gets hurt.

  2. Have you run into any of the people panicking because they thought that he was just gonna get rid of Obamacare but now realize that they could lose the insurance that they got under the Affordable Care Act?!?

Seriously, how the fuck many years have they had to discover the difference between the two. . . ?

  3. That sign in front looks ‘shopped, but your point is still well taken: I recall hearing actor Craig T. Nelson of Coach fame saying this practically verbatim back in the day.

ETA: And I applaud your use of pendejos as well.

  4. the candy cat has taken to using her tail as a sort of stabilizer to make up for the missing leg…..creative

means i really gotta watch my step now tho

like….with the tail fully extended thats at least 3 ft of cat blocking all the doorways….
