Hope everyone had a great weekend! Book club was fun and I made cute little scones and tea sandwiches. I should have taken a picture they really were adorable.

  1. I am back from Ireland. Now I’m off to Atlanta for the week for work. No, I am not pleased that it fell out this way. I’m exhausted. But I shall persevere.

    I am pleased to see that everything is still shipshape.

    • So did you like Ireland? My brother, who was not well-traveled at all, was persuaded by friends to join one of those bus tours. He loved it. They saw the whole country in a little over two weeks. People sneer at them but it was perfect for him and I would take one, if you got a little more free time. Like, if it was structured so that you left early in the morning, drove to the next town, saw its principal sight, you eat lunch in the hystorycke citie centre, and then the guide is like, “You can come with me and I’ll take you on a little walking tour or feel free to look around yourselves.”

      • I loved Ireland. Traveling with my siblings? Not so much. We planned it all out and drove ourselves, and my wife said we should have just taken bus tours. Much more efficient. But we had sunny skies all 10 days, which I’m informed by Irish folks, never happens.

  2. I got a mass email from my Iranian-American dentist who went home to do a bunch of pro bono work for kids. Then things went haywire with Israel, but she made it back without incident.

    I gather things were tense for a while, but she personally didn’t have problems.

  4. The first time that America said foreign control of a social media app could have national security implications, there was little pushback. That was in 2020, when the Chinese firm, Beijing Kunlun Tech, sold its gay dating app, Grindr, to an investor group after President Trump warned Beijing could use personal information on the app to blackmail or influence American officials. The action was driven by a highly secretive panel, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

    GRINDR WAS A CHINESE DATING APP? Can you imagine what they did with all that info? “The Manchurian Candidate” pales beside knowing which married (to women) men in DC were hooking up. Tons do, I’ve been told, but thankfully have been spared firsthand experience. AND WHERE IS NESTOR?

    • It’s always interesting to me how companies like Cigna can create incredibly complex systems for denying claims, but then fail to factor in the potential for the system getting blown up due to PR fallout.

      CEOs and execs often get hired because they’re incredibly efficient at cutting easily quantifiable costs, but then turn out to be terrible at the hard to quantify skills a leader needs.
