Necessary Tasks [NOT 22/12/24]

Hi, friends!

Happy Sunday!

I hope your weekend went well, that you had tasty food and drinks, and that you’re ready for the week.

I also hope nobody has Christmas shopping left to do tomorrow or Tuesday because yikes are people going to be feral and crabby in the stores.

This weekend was a clothing purge task.

You see, my house is over 70 years old and was built for the demographic of “post-war starter home for a married average to low income family.” Aka, it’s a small house with 2 bedrooms and the closets are very small. Like I grew up in a condo that had massive closets by comparison.

However – this isn’t really a bad thing for me. There’s no need for me to have a ton of clothing. And you know how it goes, a lot of stuff shoved into backs of closets or bottoms of dressers is either too small or too outdated.

So I’ve increasingly had issues with not being able to really fit all my clothes as put away. This isn’t really much of a problem with summer and fall clothes because almost all my work clothes are air dry, so having things air dry and then just grabbing them off a drying rack or random hanger over a door is fine. Yet here we are in winter, and it’s felt very very cluttered lately. The stack of folded clean clothes on the floor with no where else to go? Finally got on my nerves. All the stuff hanging up from air drying that’s been just doing nothing but hanging there for weeks? Over it.

So anyways, things are looking much better. I have 2 bags of clothing too damaged to donate and 3 big bags of good clothing to donate to a local Methodist church that runs a secondhand shop. I know usually religious organizations are assholes with resale (Salvation Army discriminating against trans folks, for example), and I hate how the Goodwill company mistreats developmentally disabled folks who they employ for disgustingly low wages. While I’m a happy atheist, that particular Methodist church welcomes folks of all backgrounds, runs Freedom Schools during the summer, and does other good stuff in the community. Also, everything in their resale store is between 50 cents and a dollar an item, and if folks need help with that, they help.

What did you do this weekend?

Also, in case you’ve never heard of Freedom Schools, they’re pretty cool. For reference – https://www.siue.edu/diversity/freedom-school/

dont tell them im a big teddy bear

    it would inconvenience me

    • Nice!

Listen as far as I’m concerned, the only important rule of holiday shopping is don’t be a dick to the staff. So if you look like a complete menace but aren’t rude to the cashiers, friend you’re a-okay in my book!

  2. I still have grocery shopping to do which I’m not looking forward to. Christmas is amateur hour for shoppers who are suddenly trying to figure out if salt is in the dairy aisle.

    • I went grocery shopping today and was reminded of how nice it is to have a grocery store actually in its own small shopping center (with other small businesses) compared to big shopping complexes with people trying to go to several big box stores in the same area.

I had almost no wait and the lot was busy but not any worse than a normal weekend. It was glorious.

  3. We shopped, saw Back to the Future play, had an amazing dinner & bar crawl as a family.  Owner of the restaurant was there & is about to move back to Italy & leave his restaurant w/ his daughter.  We got to take final pics w/ him & get him to sign his new cookbook for us & a gift to a friend.  Such a great weekend other than seeing a homeless guy almost die on the street while his girlfriend is yelling at my wife trying to help & a guy giving him Narcan.  They were doing cpr wrong & she tried to jump in but gf not having it.  Cops came quickly but freaked out my daughter.  She signed up to get free Narcan today.  We left before we found out if he lived to keep out of a fight.

  4. I still have to decorate my Christmas tree. Does that count?

Ah, well. I won’t be able to get to it anyway tonight because I’m staying at my parents’ house for a dentist appointment I have around here tomorrow morning. But at least I can get back home whenever I feel like it instead of having to haul ass in time for work, like I thought I’d have to do when I scheduled it during the summer.

  5. /me pays through the nose to fix cat peeing on the sofa

    thyroid apparently….

/me enjoys couple days of pee free since medication

/me wakes up to cat puking on the sofa
