Hi, friends! Happy Sunday!
I hope your weekend went well.
Tonight’s theme is habits. Have you started any new ones this summer? What motivated you?
I’ve taken to washing the dishes every night before bed (or putting the ones that can go in the dishwasher in there, for the next time I run it). I know this sounds silly and basic. But I don’t like in a climate where a bowl soaking overnight in the sink is going to be cockroach city the next day. I don’t have pets to worry about getting into things, either.
Anyways, earlier in the summer I awoke to one of those giant house centipedes just living its best morning in my kitchen sink. So ever since then? Every night dishes get washed and sink basin gets wiped out.
I’m with you on the dishes, but thanks to rotating shift I usually clean them every other day which is okay as I don’t use many dishes in the first place and lucky enough to avoid having too many creepy crawlies running around.
Better than when I was living with either asshole housemate dishes were done once every week (99% done by me because even I have standards) and made the house smell kind of funky.
We used to only wash plates, cups and silverware in the dishwasher and pots, pans, containers, utensils, etc. were hand washed. We’ve gotten in the habit (if you can call it that) of just putting everything in the dishwasher and running it more often. I doubt it uses any more hot water, probably less.
I typically only handwash things that either aren’t dishwasher safe (example being the old wood handled steak knives I use) or probably aren’t going to last well in the dishwasher (example being plastic storage and its lids).
I assume my pots are dishwasher safe. They’re stainless steel and can be used on a gas stove, I have a hard time thinking a dishwasher will hurt them.
Right now, the new habit I have at work is shutting up to management stupidity (mostly… except muttering contemptuous things under my breath or rolling my eyes when I see the failed projects/ideas at “work.”)
Currently management is having a mental breakdown (no Captain Queegs yet) over fears of changes to management (ie: fewer of them and wholesale personnel changes) from the new owners so they are taking it out on the production apes like me.
I’m just waiting for the changes to happen. Being pretty much THE sole survivor of management’s wrath, I’m now the dept “jailhouse” legal advisor providing semi-legal non professional advice and emotional counselling services.
I only have Nasty Habits probably best not discussed in mixed company.
courtesy of wierd weather…i now have a habit of moving all my potted plants into the kitchen at least once a week
even my little olive tree gets blown about the garden if i dont….and that fuckers pretty heavy….my basil tomatos and courgettes may end up in a different country if i ever forget to rescue them pre emptivily
this has always been a pretty windy country…but the gusts that come with the rain nowadays are just silly
