  1. I got one of these not too long ago, and it’s fine.

It looks like the price has dropped to about $250 which is a really good deal in my opinion. It gets 5G, has a decent camera (no real zoom, though), and decent battery life. I don’t have apps that would stress it out so can’t comment on speed and RAM.

What’s good is Samsng has dropped most of the bloatware they had on an earlier phone of theirs I had, and they’re supporting Android updates for the next 3-4 years.

I was watching the Seinfeld episode The Chinese Restaurant yesterday because it had James Hong from Everything Everywhere All At Once in it. One of the big plot points was George desperately needed to use the pay phone to call someone he was dating, but it was always being used.

    Times have changed.

    • Years ago I had a phone with a slide out keyboard with physical keys and the complete lack of mis-hit letters was fantastic. I would love one now, but I don’t think there are any that are really up to date.

  2. My phone is old enough that it’s struggling. It was a cheap end Samsung when I bought it because I have this personal issue with financing a phone so I always end up buying a new one every 3 years for a few hundred bucks.

    Anyways.

I think I’m going to switcheroo to a Google Pixel. I have several friends with those and they love them. Google also already owns my brain and data so might as well just skip a step and let them own my phone, too.

  3. Ahhhhhh, please keep the opinions coming. I will need a new phone in Q1 (or have planned to get one). The kid has been nagging me for a few years to get a replacement for my Samsung S8. I need a reasonable camera, texting, phoning, and a wide variety of work apps. I like speed! The Samsung A series is a reasonable price, eh?

    • I currently have a Samsung A32 and it’s pretty decent. Good camera, plenty of storage space, and it’s how I get on here! I’ve even dropped it a few times and haven’t managed to break it (yet…*knocks on wood*)

  4. I like my Samsung s9 – even though somehow I deleted all of my pics off of it. Still haven’t figured out how – at least it’s all on a google drive.

Oh, and look’s like we get to keep the Senate.

  5. FYI, I got a Google Pixel 7 to replace my 5+ year old Huawei (yes, the same Huawei that killed Nortel).  Partially because it was time to replace it and also I am traveling to the States soon (for silly paranoid reasons don’t want to be labeled as a Chinese spy as I have already been labeled as a job stealing Asian by the RW goons at US Customs.)

I actually wanted an iPhone14, but fucking Apple doesn’t use nano SIM cards or any SIM cards… eSIM actually.  This makes some issues for me for flexibility sake… also avoid that whole bullshit Apple Power Cable (WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE USB-C, APPLE?)

So that is why I went with the Google.  It is reasonably priced (for an upscale phone) and it has what I want. The guy wanted me to upgrade to the Pro, but no fucking way as it is too much phone for me to pay for the next 2 years.

BTW, I  liked my Huawei which was easy to use, tough and had a really long battery life.  I used to go two days without charging with moderate use–even after five years I still could go a whole day without charging unlike the Samsung I had before where I needed to charge it twice a day. I don’t like the Samsungs because I found them too delicate and the battery life was too short.

Pitfalls was my phone/PRC was spying on me.

  6. ive currently got a nokia 7+

its been good to me but is too big……fucking sturdy tho

im probably switching to a pixel next….really…i just want a camera that can call people
