Hi, friends!
I got no theme at all tonight. I’m traveling home and my flight’s been delayed a few hours and I’m just over it. It’s not the end of the world, I’m not even that crabby about it. However, my brain is toast after working all day on complicated shit and I’m out of steam for thinking of NOT topics.
Controversial opinion, but airports bite.
I will say that the food options are better than they used to be. I remember when Taco Bell was a big step up from what there had been.
But the whole process of walking five miles to get to your gate, only to find out the gate was changed to completely different terminal is just horrible.
The stupid TVs playing CNN or some other packaged broadcast is a drag. Dodging the golf carts that are beeping at you is no fun, and neither is trying to get through the crowds of people walking ten abreast while you’re rushing to make a flight.
I do like walking on the moving walkways, but I hate running into the people who park themselves on one with three luggage carts blocking the way.
It’s not even a bad airport, as airports go, just that if my flight takes off when the current delay is saying it will, I’ll have been here 3 hours.
Some moron decided to stop at the top of the escalator to fuss with her roller luggage and there were 4 of us yelling “you gotta move” since we were about to collide with her. I don’t know, any level of situational awareness would have been nice there.
Oof, those horrible situations where you find yourself climbing over the luggage of the idiot stopped at the end of the escalator and then they start freaking out like they’re the wounded party.
I hate the fact the airports are doing the stadium way and jacked up the cost of everything. Part of that is the unreal rents airports demand from the businesses, but $2o+ for a pint is highway robbery.
I don’t miss airline food though not because it was mostly mediocre, but for the fact it wiped out a whole generation of Jerry Seinfeld like comics and their “What’s the deal with airplane food?” ‘jokes.’
Yeah I was going to have a cocktail earlier but I can only expense $40 for dinner and a cocktail was $18.
…in a book called the long, dark teatime of the soul douglas adams once put it this way
I was off work today, yesterday and the latter half of Monday because I was slated to interpret for a 2-day jury trial far enough away to have the State put me up in a hotel, and it got continued after it was too late to cancel the PTO. But they still tapped me to go to court both days in the city and county, respectively, to interpret for incarcerated defendants who had bond hearings.
The one yesterday was especially heavy because it involved someone charged with vehicular manslaughter, and the victim’s parents were there to give impact statements, which I had to kneel and render into the defendant’s ear. The mother’s was at least easy to follow because she’d written it down and was punctuating every sentence with her sadness and rage. But the father (who may have managed to snap a photo of the defendant before the bailiff admonished him to put away his phone) just said what came to him on the spur of the moment, and it didn’t take long before he started haranguing the defendant — “this illegal” — directly and saying that the defendant and his whole family should burn in hell. That ended up getting him and his wife dismissed, though he seemed to realize that he may have gotten carried away. (I followed well behind him and left the courthouse through a different exit just the same.) The defendant was bawling his eyes out so much that one of the bailiffs brought him some tissues, so. . . job done, I guess? Anyway, between that, the heat and the fact that the proceedings started two fucking hours after the time they’d asked me to show up, I needed a nice nap before I went out again to vote.
The one today was relatively easier, if you don’t count the utilities truck that was parked in my fucking driveway as I was leaving, or the fact that both defendants today had thick Cuban accents and were mumbling on top of that. I needed a nap after the one today, too, although that was just because it was still early and I’d slept like shit last night.
It actually occurred to me to ask if you were working from home today and invite you out for lunch or whatever. Good thing I never got around to it, huh. . . ?
