The killing of Iran’s top nuclear scientist is likely to impede the country’s military ambitions. Its real purpose may have been to prevent the president-elect from resuming diplomacy with Tehran.
With the assassination by Israel of Iran’s top nuclear warhead designer, the Middle East is promising to complicate Joe Biden’s job from day one. President-elect Biden knows the region well, but if I had one piece of advice for him, it would be this: This is not the Middle East you left four years ago.
After suffering a string of audacious attacks, Tehran faces an agonizing choice: embracing hard-liner demands for swift retaliation or trying to make a fresh start with the Biden administration.

  1. Over the weekend I watched 1994’s “The Madness of King George.” I felt it was appropriate right about now. It was excellent. The whole cast was superlative, and there are lots of familiar faces. A nice and wholly unexpected surprise was Jim Carter, who played Mr. Carson on “Downton Abbey” fifteen years later, who gets a large role.

If Trump goes through with his mad scheme to somehow disrupt the inauguration by competing somehow and announcing a 2024 run I think it is a moral imperative that all the major media outlets make “The Madness of King George” available to all on the evening of January 20th. Right now it’s on HBOMax.

    • …it’s a good movie…& a good idea…although poor old george did at least have an unfortunate medical condition to answer for the madness

…& I’d maybe start with as few channels carrying any of the alt-rally as possible if the straining ego does prove that desperate

…it’s bad enough he almost certainly aims to keep his “finances” hidden behind that “campaign” fig leaf while he bilks as many morons as he can for cash to fill the void that’s due to pull him under…any network that helps him do it ought to be dissolved…but I’m guessing it’ll be all over OANN & the local stuff the Sinclair assholes control?

      • Yes, it’s thought that George III suffered from porphyria. It’s a kind of liver disease with physical side-effects, as you see in the movie: sudden abdominal pain, strange urine and stool colors (the phrase “the king’s water” is used more than once in the movie) but then it has a neurological effect. Those symptoms include bursts of rage, mania, delusional thinking, hallucinations. It only gets worse over time as the episodes become more frequent and last longer.

It’s genetic, by the way, and Half-Scoop doesn’t seem to be too firmly tethered to reality, but that’s probably Daddy issues and his fierce determination to ride the grift for as long as possible.

  2. Thank you for detailing these many ‘Not Getting It’ factuals, especially all (of them) at once and in one easy-to-find spot; your efforts are appreciated. I look forward (soon please) to NOT seeing ‘that’ face nor the odd faces of it’s offspring splayed-across the news headlines each day!

    • I wouldn’t count on that. trump is going to continue to encourage chaos and division in a public way. Lara Trump is talking about running for senate in North Carolina, there is also speculation that Don Jr will be running for office and Melania is planning a memoir. Our only hope to be rid of them is if some or all of them end up in jail.

      • …much as it’s demoralising enough to be a thing I don’t relish contemplating…it wouldn’t surprise me if many of the dire symptoms of the efforts & effects associated with the effectively criminal enterprises of the trumps’ cabal of enablers prove to persist even in their absence

…I could be wrong but the distinct impression I get is that while they themselves are desperate to stay in place & surf their wave of misguidedly disaffected support in order to keep their heads above water…those enabling them in many (if not most) cases are pretty indifferent to their fate now that it seems clear they’ve identified a critical mass of self-destructive willful idiocy they can tap into for cash & political influence

…& while I’ll admit to being the sort of person who wouldn’t be above relishing the downfall of that family…ideally that would be in the service of establishing precedents that would help to deconstruct & ameliorate that underlying nightmare…& send them some company in their incarceration

…not sure I’m.as hopeful about the chances of that bit as I’d like, though?

  3. My wife rants each night after work about her patients that don’t think Covid is that bad & how the media is overreacting.  She usually avoids political discussions at work but is happy to have medical ones.  This morning I gave her some ammunition though these numbers are actually lower than reality, it gets the point across pretty well…

    • 4 of the guys my dad hangs out with (AT THE BAR, during a pandemic) caught Covid and they had to close the bar. 90% sure my Dad had it, but he hasn’t been to a doctor in 50 years so why start now? He seems to be feeling better.

Out of the guys that had it, one lost sense of taste and smell, one had no symptoms and one was in the hospital for 2 weeks.

      • I’m in Oakland, CA, which I think has been handling things about as well as anywhere in the country.  Most people outside are wearing masks (although many people have them on their chin, ear, or with their nose hanging out…).
But there was a limited re-opening recently, where they were allowing people in bars and restaurants.  I think they were supposed to be at 1/4 capacity, but who the hell measures, let alone enforces that?  There is a sports bar not far from me, that every night I’ve passed it when it was open, was packed full of people, eating, drinking, yelling, and not wearing masks.
        le sigh

  4. There’s a branch of the Sackler family that was completely not involved in Purdue Pharma and they get unfairly assumed to be in that cabal of assholes. That has to suck. I mean many of us have some variation of “I’m not like that family member” but in their case it’s definitely more embarrassing and shameful.
