It’s become commonplace to say that the last 4 years have been exhausting, but when you think about it, it’s just been the culmination of 20 years of exhausting politics. It started with 8 years of war crimes, profiteering, and voter suppression. Then 8 years of vitriol and obstructionism because a black man had the audacity to get himself elected President. Trump has just been the lemon on top of the shit sundae.
Don’t you mean the orange atop the shit sundae?
I read a piece today in a similar vein. Bottom line is that the racism, vicious disregard for others, xenophobia, and abject stupidity weren’t created by Trump. Those are the things that created Trump, like Dr. Frankenstein making a monster. They existed before Trump, and they’ll still exist after he’s gone. It’s truly the culmination of the Republican “plan” that stretches back generations.
The only problem with it is that the Republicans ended up with someone that’s so stupidly hateful, so ignorant, so vicious, and so greedy and venal that he went too far and spurred the 60% or so of non-Trumpers to take this shit seriously. If they’d actually managed to put someone with half a brain in the White House, things would be inconceivably more horrible than they are now, because someone that’s evil and clever would have snuck a lot of these abuses in without braying about them on Twitter.
So the monster turned on Dr. Frankenstein. Let’s hope they destroy each other. But even then, those Trump Train assholes will keep lurking, buying guns, and waiting for the next demagogue who tells them they’re “special.” They won’t go away, they’ll just crawl back under rocks.
The Republicans have been morally bankrupt and corrupt oligarchs and fascists for a LOOOOONNG time. But they were always able to kind of hide that part of themselves behind moderately charismatic douchebags who you hated but seemed to have something approximating a soul. Kind of.
Trump is every hateful thing the Republicans made without a soul and without the wherewithall to hire people that are smarter than him. He’s Conservative dogma made manifest. Republicans may find people more hateful to shove in front of America, but they won’t find anyone more shameless. Like, Mike Pence is at least as evil as Trump, but he’s boring. There’s a lot of Republicans who try to copy Trump’s playbook, but the fact that they sort of kinda care about being respected will prevent them from gaining ground with Republican voters.
Amorality is a tough sell. Most successful sociopaths can pretend to be human beings, and mimic actual human emotions like empathy and sorrow. If the Republicans could have actually managed to get Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio or, God help us, Ted Cruz elected, they’d have managed to cement their rule for decades.
While a sociopath, Trump is too stupid and narcissistic to ape genuine human emotions, and his age, dementia, and stupidity combine to keep him spewing out shit. Nobody can shut him up, so he keeps shouting out bile from the depths of his id. He screams the quiet parts from the rooftops as loudly as possible. And that’s ultimately his downfall, because while it appeals to a broader segment of society than I’d have guessed, it apparently repulses far more. I hope. We’ll know tomorrow.
The conservative pseudo intellectual clique which somehow still gets published in the big press is down to two defenses:
— The Left is just overreacting due to built in bias that prevents them from thinking clearly like us, the serious thinkers who only consider reality.
— Sure, Trump has topped 70 X 9/11 in deaths and is trampling on the rule of law to attack his enemies, but but but imagine what if this NYU sophomore who spray painted a statue becomes president in 30 years….

Happy Day Before Election Day. I hope you all heard about the Garden State Trump yahoos who shut down the Garden State Parkway and the Mario Cuomo Bridge (aka “the new Tappan Zee”) yesterday. Had they tried to pull this stunt during a rush hour they would have been pulled from their cars and stomped to death and no jury would convict. You do not mess with anyone driving a car with Jersey plates, and they seem to be especially brutal toward each other. Bridgegate, never forget!
It amazes me that my Jersey familia didn’t jump out of their cars and just start throwing haymakers bad powerbombs.

Pennsylvania voters in Philly and the suburbs who drive on that all the time are not happy either. The shutdown incident in Colorado shows the GOP doesn’t care about winning statewide there anymore.
Based on my own experience with narcissists is that the worst happens just before you break them. They get more shrill and panic as their fantasy world collapses around them.
I know there were incidents, but isolated as mostly things have been quiet/peaceful.
