Want a fun fact to start your Wednesday?
Of course you do!
This is my 600th post for Deadsplinter.
SIX HUNDRED! And it all started with this one.
Thanks for sticking around!
There’s an especially torturous place in hell awaiting Alex Jones.
Whoa, Kansas?!?
Kansans resoundingly reject amendment aimed at restricting abortion rights

Was this because everyone was confused as to which of the three Erics Trump endorsed?

Have an awesome day!
I am honestly absolutely shocked that Kansas voted the way it did. Between the place being overrun by right wing shitbags, and that I think they were one of the states that started fucking with their election laws to ensure GOP “victories”, I figured for sure that amendment would sail right through.
I think we just found the perfect job for @ManchuCandidate.
Diabeetus 2 is a perk?
I’m startled too. 60-40? That’s fucking stunning.
It truly puts Republicans in a Catch-22. The smart play would be to pass a national abortion law before the midterms, to defuse the anger and try to make it a nonissue by November (that’s “remove the fuse,” not “diffuse” which means to spread widely, which is today’s PSA for any random Internet reader that doesn’t know the difference and there are many but I should be saving that for a grammar pet peeves NOT). But they can’t, can they? They’ve pandered to the evangelical nutjobs to the point where that’s a huge segment of their voter base. It would be political suicide to drop them now.
November will not be the Republican blowout that the Republicans were counting on. Not by a long shot.
My guess is we get a flood of articles from GOP sympathetic reporters planted by GOP consultants about how the GOP has learned a valuable lesson and will definitely be taking the concerns of women in mind going forward. They’re thinking hard. Look how hard they’re thinking.
But let’s move on, nothing more to see, we’re sure Alito is focused on serious jurisprudence now. Alabama? Is that a part of the US? We’re not sure what you’re talking about. Definitely a dangerous moment for the GOP’s opponents. Hey, Monkeypox!
Very interesting read on the Kansas abortion blowout:

Quote:
This election is being fought on abortion. We are finally on the winning side of a culture war issue, and it will be something to see Republicans try to explain this one away.
One more thing:
600 posts, woo hoo!
Right?!? Seems like a few!
If I’m a GOPer strategist then I’m shitting my pants.
1) The Jan 6 Hearings are quite devastating if you’re not a Tru believer GOPer. Sure 33% still believe in Trump, but GOPer membership like the Dems is a minority. Most folks are independent and they’re not fans right now.
2) The Senate campaigns for critical seats are going badly even ones they thought they could hold. Means Sinema and Manchin might become irrelevant. Kidding, not really I hope.
3) Mitch’s political gamesmanship may have actually backfired. Veterans tend to be RW and vote GOPer. Selling them out, is not a good look especially they are part of the base of voters they relied. Not a good look especially when all the Dem (supposedly anti veteran) Senators voted for it.
4) Killing Roe V Wade has angered many women. Political engagement naturally increases when something affects you personally. Over 50% of US Voters have been affected. Most females aren’t fundy loons who keep fetal remains in their homes which didn’t cross the minds of the Hateful 6.
Yep. See my post above. November isn’t going the way Republicans want. I’d be interested to see how they want to “thank” the Supreme Taliban. Ron DeSantis is so scared he won’t allow the word “abortion” to be said in his presence. To add to your list:
5) Gas prices are dropping. That was supposed to fuel anger toward Dems.
6) There’s no recession (yet). And since identifying a recession is a backward-looking fact (you need two quarters of declining GDP), Republicans might not be able to pound that drum by November. Even the shitty press can’t claim there’s a recession yet, though I notice they’re staying mum on declining gas prices.
7) Trump’s starting to function as a spoiler. His endorsements are going nowhere, but they’re sucking away MAGA votes from the overall Republican candidates. Not enough, but you have to wonder if the “faithful” will just say “fuck it” and stay home in November.
Fun fact: the two quarters of negative GDP isn’t actually the definition of a recession. That’s just shorthand which has been more or less perpetuated by the media for public consumption because it’s quick and easy and doesn’t require actual thought. The true definition of a recession comes from the NBER’s traditional definition of a recession which is a significant decline in economic activity that is spread across the economy and that lasts more than a few months.
But you know damned well that none of that matters because FOX is telling their viewers that we’re in a recession and will stay there until Republicans regain control.
@MegMegMcGee, Happy 600!!!!
Yes, well done, Meg!
Thank you!
Thanks! Seems pretty crazy to me!
@MegMegMcGee, if you’re Deadsplinter posts were home runs, you would now be in the top ten home run leaders of all time, between Sammy Sosa and Frank Robinson.
No Clear or Amphetamines involved.
Meg would be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Cheers! Thanks!
Says who?
If posts were years, Meg would be three generations of giant tortoises. If posts were miles, Meg would be a month of walking from Detroit to NYC. If posts were candies, though, Meg would only have tasted five days worth for that Canadian candy tasting job.
Haha thank you!
I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I though Vin Scully died years ago. Another embarrassing admission: My father was an avid baseball fan and would watch one game on TV while listening to another on the radio simultaneously. I’d usually take a nap, and Vin Scully’s voice puts me instantly to sleep. Even listening to recordings of it hits me like anesthesia.
That’s not to say he wasn’t great at what he did — he absolutely was — just that his mellifluous voice soothes the crap out of me.
Dude.
Man trying to burn spider with lighter sparked Utah wildfire, police say
That’s taking “kill it with fire” a bit too far.
I just want to be clear with Kansas.
As amazing as this is, it’s not an indication that 60% of the voters were prochoice or even pro-women are people too.
It’s basically “oh shit we don’t want quite that much extremism in our state legislation.” Which is a good line in the sand to see.
But also? Republicans will hold their nose and vote for whatever shitstain wins the primaries to keep democrats out of office. Like you might not vote for someone who says no abortion evvvvveeerrrr, but you’d vote for someone who is A-OK putting a fuckton of restrictions on it. And more importantly, wouldn’t push back if someone else tried to all-out ban it.
So yes, this is definitely a big win. But the dems need to focus on riling up their voters and getting more registered because republican voters aren’t going to vote against their own party in the elections regarding of how they feel about abortion.
You’re absolutely correct. Complacency is disastrous and Kansas is weird as fuck. These are indisputable facts.
However, there’s a certain psychological value in taking the win. It’s good to pump up Democrats, but also to demoralize Republicans. Let’s face it, Repubs do that shit to Democrats on the daily: Uncle Joe’s approval ratings are in the toilet and you’re DOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMEEEDDDD. And people buy that shit and say, fuck it, we’ve already lost and I gotta simonize my car on election day. So if the punditry wants to trumpet this, I say let ’em. Put the Republicans on the defensive for a change.
Anything that makes those assholes sweat is okay in my book.
I’m surprised Greitens actually lost the primary here in Missouri.
Although he is a Jewish republican and I would not be surprised if that weighed into it for the Q idiots out here.
