The other day I was at Trader Joe’s in a shopping center that most suburban people like to bitch about because *the parking lot is so cramped!*
Dear readers, the parking lot is fine if you have a car or small SUV. But I digress.
So, I had parked with the passenger side of my car next to one of the spots with the cart corrals. I’m putting my cart away and standing next to my car. This older lady (mid 50s, not like old enough that you should be worried about her driving) just pulls right in on the other side of the cart corral, hits the corner of the railing loudly with her car, then proceeds to give ME a dirty look as she pulls her car in.
She gets out of her car with a grumpy expression, and I say “hey I think that scratch will buff out with a cloth and some wax.” And then she just looks at me for a minute and then says “that was me?” and I had to explain that she hit the rails with her car when pulling in the spot.
Anyways, she was pretty embarrassed at that point and I left. Apparently she though I had slammed my cart into the corral making the noise. Despite me not having a cart at that point.
Missouri requires front license plates on vehicles.
I’m sure you’re completely unsurprised to learn that she had to back her car up slightly as she’d pulled in so far that her front license plate holder was in contact with the car on the otherside of the parking spot.
I disagree. We very much need to be worried about her driving. She is a menace.

I’ve just spent the last 7.5 hours driving about 150 miles round trip and moving eldest daughter. She missed the first trip w/ 2 SUV’s full due to work but caught the 2nd trip w/ 3 SUV’s full and the 3rd trip w/ 1 SUV & a truck for the couch & bed. Now I get to drive another 50miles round trip to pick up the wife at the train station. God, the traffic sucked on the last portion home and will again the rest of that 50 mile trip! It definitely has been a LABOR day!
I obviously don’t know about your Trader Joe’s but their parking lots are notoriously small for the traffic they get. There’s even a great episode of Lady Dynamite about it. I only go on weekday mornings to avoid dealing with it. The same for Aldi.
The only TJ’s that I’ve seen with a decently sized parking lot is in a huge shopping center which is part of a football stadium complex. All the ones I’ve seen elsewhere are either too small for the traffic they bring in or are actually nonexistent.
This one shares a parking lot with a Target and a bunch of other stores. So it’s always crowded.
The TJ’s in fancy West County with the bougie suburban money? Well the lot is theoretically easier to use but I’ve almost been hit walking to and from my car several times in that lot. So I’ll take busy and cramped over that risk!
You can’t talk about Parking Lots, and *not* include the iconic “Face it girls, I’m older, and have better insurance!”

And the TJ’s parking lot horror-show, is why I ALWAYS either try to park on the Street side of the St. Louis Park store, or the “World Market” end of the parking lot at the Maple Grove store…
I swear, it’s like they *purposefully* design most of the TJ’s lots, with as many tight turns & angles as possible, rather than just going for straight rows!
