Hi, friends!
I hope your Thursday went well. Do you live in a place where they’re billboards along highways? Are they entertaining?
My friends and I joke that the entire southeast quadrant of Missouri is some variation of billboards for casinos, anti-abortion lie campaigns, reverse-vasectomy surgeries, and sex shops. I haven’t been down there since recreational weed was legalized, presumably those are there in the mix too.
On the innerbelt I take to work, first I pass a sign for a funeral parlor with a “Veteran’s Special!” and then like a mile up the highway, “MARINES FIGHT TO WIN.”
Awkward.
I learned today that a splash of methyl ethyl ketone in the eye is way more painful than normal propyl acetate in the eye but the pain doesn’t last as long. I’ve been well aware of both of their flash rates for most of my life which rendered the eye test unnecessary…
no matter…
I learned today that reverse vasectomies are a thing.
Listen I don’t know that it’s a legit medical surgery, just that there are people paying for it in southeast Missouri.
They work! I offer Exhibit B: my dad’s second litter as proof. There’s a 20 year gap between me and my half siblings.
The pain has subsided. Thanks.
Perfection.
We have very weird laws here for billboards. Seems like they are only allowed in certain cities & tribal lands. You don’t see them off the major freeways in most cities except around the tribal casinos. My area though has 2, one for a mega church & one for a large brewing company. I choose to avoid both.
On one of the Interstates into town there are a series of electronic billboards which rotate messages too quickly to read and are also too poorly laid out and designed to really be read.
As best I can tell they’re basically a scam — whoever owns them must be selling ad impressions based on some percentage of average daily traffic driving by, but nobody bothers to check if there is any way the messages are actually read.
In other words, those billboards are a physical version of most of the ads sold online to content farms which nobody reads but still generate huge traffic numbers.
Speaking of driving… I’m in Montreal and my sibling lent me their twenty year old V70R. Oooh boy I forgot how fun it is to drive stick.
Totally off topic but just trust me.
