Punk History [7/5/81]

The band Classix Nouveaux has their debut album released. The band consists of Sal Solo (vocals), Mik Sweeney (bass), B.P. Hurding (drums) and Gary Steadman (guitar). The band was originally formed following the breakup of X-Ray Spex. Hurding and fellow X-Ray Spex bandmate Jak Airport put an ad in Melody Maker for a new lead singer. Solo answered the ad and Sweeney rounded out the group. Airport’s time in the band was short and he was replaced by Gary Steadman.

The album was released on Liberty Records. The title of the album was “Night People”. The album name was changed to “Classix Nouveaux” for the U.S. market. Two songs ( “Or A Movie” and “Soldier”) were replaced with “Nasty Little Green Men” and “Robot’s Dance” for the U.S. release.

While this is not normally my thing I must admit I do have a couple of their singles. Everyone needs filler.

  1. I don’t mean to be iconoclastic, but the Punk era was already over by May 7, 1981. The period from Sid’s death to John Lennon’s murder was the wake. Fight me.

I was there and participated at an intimate level, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt and scars.
