Hi, friends! My computer demanded it do an update tonight that took a surprise 45 minutes. This old beast chugs along still, to my continued amazement.
Safety check – are you doing okay? Folks safely indoors? Utilities probably still working? I have friends in a few Texas cities and it’s not pretty tonight.
Let’s chat. Doing okay with staying in if your area has shit weather? I feel like in some ways we have 11 months of practice for stay the fuck home, but also people still need things like groceries.
I haven’t been able to work in nearly a week because I accidentally broke the HDMI cables to both my computer monitors and now I’m waiting for replacements. That along with the unpleasantness and difficulty of venturing outside is leaving me just as out of sorts as I was at the beginning of the pandemic, and it’s starting to get a bit scary now. . . .
You waiting for delivery or need to venture out in the arctic tundra?
I’m waiting for them to deliver me some replacement cables. I’m sure as fuck not going out there!
Snow is starting to fall here in Toronto. So far it will be the biggest snowfall this winter. Not looking forward at all to the commute tomorrow.
I will take my damn time getting to work. Production be damned.
As for CoVID, I’m lucky in that my work demands that I come in as I’m a production line grunt at the local pill factory so I don’t feel the isolation that a lot of my friends feel working at home (not so lucky as 14 coworkers have tested positive and management seems more concerned with their careers than about us.)
I feel bad for the folks who live alone and work at home. I know a couple of them and call them from time to time to see how they are doing.
As for now, I’ve got my hobbies, reading, internet interactions with folks like you and my excuse for writing to keep me from going insane while at home.
Hello! Checking in from Tx. The rolling blackouts had me without power or heat (and a warning from the water company too) for around 4 hrs this afternoon, but luckily the power did come back on. I know many areas in the state are still without power or water. The forecast low tonight is 0 degrees f. Mind blowing stuff. It’s truly once in a lifetime weather for here.
I’m glad your power is back on now.
We’ve had freezing rain on and off since last night. People are starting to lose power, so far ours is still on but the ice is building up on the lines. I’m in better shape than a lot of folks though. We have a fireplace and wood so we can at least stay warm.
Are you in Kentucky/Tennessee area? I know they’re getting freezing rain.
I hate freezing rain. I will complain about snow all day long but I will always prefer it to freezing rain.
Bluegrass region of Kentucky. I hate freezing rain too. This is our second storm this month with another forecast for Thursday. I’ll be glad when winter is over.
My son went skiing with a buddy today and came away without a scratch.
His buddy, though, snapped a bone. Yikes. They ended up spending the rest of the day in the hospital instead of the slopes.
Oh, shit! Is his buddy going to be okay? Hoping the buddy won’t need crutches.
A clean break and no surgery, crutches or massive braces needed, but still plenty painful I hear.
We had about 6” over 2 days but today it warmed up, starting to rain & melt snow which creates a spooky ground fog. You can only see about 500 yards. Mountain roads are closed but down here is just damp & risk of flooding.
By the time the weather gets here it’ll be raining which will make quite the mess.
Our power has been strangely unreliable over the past few months. Just had another outage on Saturday for no apparent reason. But that’s what generators are for, assuming a long outage is in our forecast. If I’m reasonably assured the outage will last less than four hours then I’m not about to go through the hassle of hooking the generator up.
Other than that, yeah I suppose I’m doing OK. Other than feeling squirrely for the past several months. Sometimes I don’t think so much about the things I did, but rather the things that I didn’t do.
@butcherbakertoiletrymaker Oh boy, I can relate to that.
I too am squirrely. But that is fairly normal.
worst of the weather is done here now….couple icy patches left to keep me on my toes (all nine of them :p)
but should be a pretty trouble free ride in today
4 hours of work….i could get used to this
(farscy convinced the HR woman he can only be on his feet for half a day till his toe heals)
(farscy should consider a career in politics as he is a gifted liar)
fwiw tho….it was true last week…now im just milking it
also being a little baffled at being mostly fine again in a week…not quite got full range of movement back yet..but other than that fine
seems like a ridiculously short time to get over a bone break…..maybe i have superpowers
We only got 2 out of the predicted 5-9 inches yesterday. I think east of me (actual Chicago and Indiana) got the worst of it. And it might get up to 19 today!!! And 34 on Sunday! And 41 on Tuesday!! AAAAHHHH!!!!
Heatwave!!
lol we went from 5f to pushing 50f overnight….my sinuses are not happy
oh well…guess ill stop bitching about the cold and start bitching about the rain
cant wait to start bitching about the heat :p
We’re above 0°F for the first time in a week (ish) this morning!
I managed to get the van stuck in the snow heaps along my driveway last night. I was so mad! I live with 5 guys… you would think the driveway would be shoveled without me having to do it myself…. but you’d be wrong 😡 I just left it there. I came in, announced that the van was stuck because nobody could be arsed to shovel, and that they needed to solve the problem. Surprisingly, it worked, and 3 of them got it unstuck in a relatively short time.
