  1. my today plan…is making cauliflower cheese with extra vitamins

    if you want the recipe…

    its pretty much pre boil some runner beans and carrots

    then steam a cauliflower (minus the green bits coz i wants to feed the bun buns)

    chuck it all in the same pan once cooked

    and serve with a fuckload of cheese sauce (like… 2 packs of just add water)

    i are now sober……falling asleep is going to be a shit for a while yet….but im past the sweats and shakes and terrors…..wasnt too bad this time…possibly coz its only been a few months since the last time i quit

    anyways if yous were hoping i’d be less annoying sober…..im going to have to disappoint yous

    sobriety actually has remarkably little effect on my personality…i just go to bed earlier

    and for the sake of posting something newsish…

    anyone else think poland not supplying weapons to ukraine over the grain deal is just play acting?

    i mean….they’ve probably already given everything they can just roll across the border already

    anything else they give is gonna take months if not years

    sounds like playing hard ball for the home crowd to me

    • …I think the home crowd part is what it turned on…& even then a fairly narrow slice of it…which is the part that echoes a lot more places than I’m comfortable with these days

      …I’m no kind of expert but there’s an election & there’s people campaigning from the right talking all kinds of shit that’s functionally pro-russia to whom they don’t think they can afford to lose voters…so the grain angle is the wedge they’re trying to negate before it lets the nutters get their hands on serious levers…at least as far as I’ve managed to follow it

      …numbers-wise it’s historically been the case that they bought less from that source & given how the export volumes from ukraine have been fucked with by the conflict I’m not sure I see where poland not buying it actually means ukraine having any trouble selling just as much…so I could well be missing something but it seems like a storm in a teacup being used to make heavy weather about dropping support for ukraine as far as the far-right campaigning goes which the incumbent party has tried to meet partway to take the wind out of more than it does poland ignoring the parallels with the time they were in ukraine’s shoes & turning their back on the idea of support

      …though…I could just be tragically misreading the whole situation…I thought you wouldn’t be able to con enough brits for brexit to be anything but a non-starter…so I’ve been at least that wrong before?

  3. …well…I started the day with a sort of plan that involved getting myself the best part of an hour away to lend someone a hand with some shifting/hefting of furniture & clambering about in attics…& if I play my cards right a takeaway dinner & possibly a movie before I turn around & trek back to where I started out

    …but I’d barely poured coffee before I wound up trying to concoct a set of simple-as-I-could-make-it instructions on how to reset & reconstruct an extension to a wifi network that lives…oh…about 8hrs away…so that hopefully someone who isn’t me but can get there today will be able to get normal service restored without actually having to find out what broke or how to get to what settings on what device to make what changes

    …for their sakes I hope that first cup of coffee did the trick…because I didn’t have time for another before I needed to get my act together & out the door for the other stuff I said I’d do today…which…now that I’m mostly awake…I am remembering also involves a spot of tech troubleshooting…that luckily I think shouldn’t require anything I left at home

    …hmm…possibly I ought to pick up beer…might save me a trip later in the day

    …basically I’d like a few more signs that it’s not in fact a weekday than I’m seeing…but hopefully at least the rest of the day will run at more of a weekend pace?

    • …it’s bugging me that the voiceover at the beginning seems familiar in the sense that I’m pretty sure it came from a show that used to air a good while back but can’t put my finger on it

      …it’s not carrot’s commercial breakdown because it’s not an add…so maybe it was a clive james thing…it wouldn’t have been out of place on saturday night clive…but it’s going to low-key nag me that I can’t place it

    • I thought it was going to be a contemporary interview, considering the state the world is in post-Trump. Then I saw the reporter’s suit and haircut. Honestly, the fact is was a newspaper ad should have tipped me off.

  6. I had a water line leak out front. Contractors were here for 11 hours yesterday and coming back to finish up this morning. Three guys at $50 an hour. And that’s just the labor costs. I’m doing nothing this weekend or probably any weekend up until I go to a wedding in October. The joys of home ownership.

    • …here’s hoping the job they did was worth it in the long run…which is to say it stays fixed long enough for it to seem cheap before you have to get anything else done about it?

    • …never heard it called that…but I know a few people who make kind of a big deal about the equinox(es)…& I always thought they seemed like good picks for an excuse for a holiday we fail to take advantage of

      • It’s my favorite of the old holidays with its emphasis on balance and gratitude.

    • I think the final point that things don’t have to be this way is the best. There’s a real problem with leadership in the press, politics, and business which looks for a standard set of explanations why things got the point where they are, and then assumes those are going to rule forever.

      The starting framework is bad enough — a lot of half baked ideas about economics, power, and what the American public is like. And then on top of that, there’s an assumption that inertia will inevitably lead everything down some direct path. And the main difference between the right, center, and about half of the left on the intellectual level is pretty small. Weirdly, the far left seems to have about as much at stake in reinforcing the bad intellectual understanding of the status quo as the centrists.

      We don’t know how things can or will play out, and what’s increasingly clear is we have dimwits running the show with all of the imagination of the French leadership in 1939.

    • …it’s a good question…to which I shall endeavour to procure an answer…but I’ve been meaning to do that & not quite found a moment so someone may beat me to it?

      • well when you do find an answer i would apreciate a yes of course he’s coming back

        but i am not management…and as such accept reality

        do miss the bubbly bastard tho
