Saturday Morning Brain Drain [18/4/20]

A place to let it all out.

What I watched: Keitel and I are watching all 8 million episodes of Dark Shadows. I used to watch it after school each day when it was aired, live, on broadcast TV. After which, I was terrified to go down to the basement and practice the piano (a useless endeavor anyway, no skilz.) There was a huge Nikko Blue Hydrangea outside the high casement window by the piano, and it’s dead, brown flowers would rattle and brush against the windows. I just knew it was the bat or the vampire coming to get me. I wrote Barnabas a fan letter and received an 8×12 glossy black and white photo with his signature in return. Wish I still had it, kitsch value, right? Fun fact: the old dude who played Maggie’s father was married to hot young Carolyn IRL for two years during the show’s run.

What I read: I took the advice of DUAN’s very own farscythe and read The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With her Mind. It was good advice – and the book is on sale for $2.99 on Kindle. There is a sequel book coming in July, Random Sh*t Flying Through The Air. Here’s the book blurb from the first book: “Teagan Frost is having a hard time keeping it together. Sure, she’s got telekinetic powers — a skill that the government is all too happy to make use of, sending her on secret break-in missions that no ordinary human could carry out. But all she really wants to do is kick back, have a beer, and pretend she’s normal for once.”

What I listened to: The Psychic Ills. Tres Warren, their singer and guitarist passed away in late March. Here is Mind Daze fom 2011. It sounds like summer to me.

  1. I work on a rotating shift 2 week schedule. When I work afternoons are my favorite because I usually get stuff done in the morning then go to work. This time around, I had a midterm and then a final to study for (professional development class) the past two weeks so I didn’t get any shit done in the mornings this time around (ie: food shop/clean/appointments.)

This Sat morn was a frantic rush to beat the, uh, rush for food shopping (for all the lunches I have to prep) and then just came back from my local tire place to replace my winter tires with all seasons (zoomed again to beat the rush.) Now it’s cleaning and cooking time till I figure around 2pm when I can park my ass on the couch and vegitate out.

Normally, I am not so frantic on a Sat morn (in fact extremely lazy).

  2. Watched all of McMillions last weekend and really enjoyed it!

I have book club via zoom tomorrow but haven’t gotten very far in the book… the ladies won’t mind, we’ll just all be happy to see each other.

    • I remember that story but no details. Looks fun. I’ve been looking for mindless comedy to distract me from everything else. Revisiting this show has done the trick.
