What I watched: We started watching The Fall on Netflix, a serial-killer/police procedural. If you’ve not seen it, watch this– trust me. It has Luther-esque moments of bad decisions, and pretty darn good character development. It stars Gillian Anderson of X Files fame and Jamie Dornan of Fifty Shades of Grey fame. There are three season and we are only mid-way into season two, so please no spoilers in the comments, okay?
What I read: Grave Humor: A Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count), by R.J. Blain. Yet another fun magical/death personification book that verges to young adult. But it had a delightful description of the English language, that I feel compelled to share with you:
“English is the language that takes other languages into dark alleys and mugs them for their loose grammar.”
“Pardon?” “English butchers other languages in dark alleys, taking their words and grammar and claiming them for itself. As a result, us English speakers can’t even figure out how our own language works because it insists on breaking all of the rules. The only consistent rule in English is that every rule has an exception. Then, to make matters worse, it keeps changing. Every damned time I think I get something right, someone goes and decides we should do it a different way. English is a rebellious language.” “You speak a rebellious language?” “Yes. Yes, I do. It’s a vicious, terrible language. It’s completely wild and untamed, and if left unsupervised, I’m certain it will start a revolt for the hell of it.”
What I listened to: Donovan Woods, Way Way Back
And The Bahamas, Alone
What’s new with you? Watch, read or listen to anything good?
SOLD! Will be starting to watch this tonight.
They did that British dyed blonde with roots thing to her hair, but she owns her role. I hope you enjoy it.
It’s very good!
Finished watching Homeland, season 8. Good ending. Would recommend.
Read this great story about how the Nazis were doped out of their gourds. Was interesting to me because I once had a professor who had studied in Germany and had learned that Hitler alone was on roughly 300 different drugs…including four for flatulence.

Listened to Amy Helm’s 2018 album, “This Too Shall Light.” Excellent.
I don’t believe Keitel and I have watched any Homeland, it is on a channel we do not have access to. Will read your story link. You’d almost have to be drugged to be that evil, I guess?
That’s a fascinating article. Makes me look at the whole “Captain America” super soldier thing somewhat differently, and you have to wonder if Simon and Kirby were aware of any of this (seems probable). It’s strange to look at decades-old drug use from a modern perspective. People were incredibly receptive to all kinds of poisonous crap.
Have you seen Overlord? Pretty good movie, crazy good opening scene, speaking of Nazi’s on drugs.
Nope, but on your recommendation will add it to the list.
Same.
Wait, four flatulence drugs? I guess that would explain the old Spike Jones song:
My big brother gave me all the Spike Jones albums when I was about 4th grade, I used to love listening to those.
I always wondered how awkward it would be down in the bunker when Hitler cuts a nasty one. Would anyone say anything? “Oh, that was a good one, Mein Fuhrer.”
The Fall is v. good and creepy!
I watched a couple episodes of Death in Paradise last night. I’m supposed to be reading a book for book club, “There, There” by Tommy Orange. I am 12% in and our Zoom meeting is tomorrow. When I can get into it, I enjoy it, but I have a hard time reading these days. I probably should have got the audio version.

We like Death in Paradise, awaiting season 9 availability. I am too fried to read anything I have to, even book club books. Do you like audiobooks? I’ve been too cheap to go there, but you reccomend?
We are on Season 9 – They’ve swapped out the inspector again!
I tend to do audio books if I have a long drive OR I’m way behind on book club. If I hadn’t already bought this one on Kindle (library was out) I’d probably double down and get it on Audible lol
I tend to like them more when the author reads it – the book club just read Trevor Noah’s book and I did that one on Audible and it was awesome. So funny!
I’m watching Barkskins. Two episodes in and I’m enjoying it. I read the book when it came out and I forgot some of what happened, so I’m now reading Barskins again. And I’m on day two of listening to sawing, drilling, and hammering in my back yard. In lieu of a summer vacation we’re having our upper deck replaced, electric run to the ground level patio, and a fancy motorized awning added to shade the patio.
The contractor showed up at 9:30am, only an hour and a half late. These are truly the end times!

That was a fun video. What a snarky little masterpiece.
