What I watched: I watched our local city council meeting on YouTube, where once again they fucked up the streaming â no sound till halfway through. As a public service, a young fellow streamed these meetings with an iPhone and a tripod for a year with perfection and precision. Since the gubâment took it over, 80% are missing, late to post, or messed up in some way. There â rant over – I feel better now.
What I read: Iâve been reading most of the series from Orlando A. Sanchez. If you sign up for his mailing list, you get three free eBooks. Most of his stuff is free on kindleunlimited. I started with a Montague & Strong Detective Novels Box Set: Books 1 through 3. A mage, an immortal detective, and a hellhound puppy with a sausage addiction â whatâs not to like?
What I listened to: New band to me, Vunderbar, Burned Off. They have a new album, ‘Either Light’ out March 13th 2020 on Gawk Records. Preorders @ https://www.vundabar.biz/
My book club is meeting via zoom this month and weâre reading âThe Library Bookâ by Susan Orlean:
On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. As the moments passed, the patrons and staff who had been cleared out of the building realized this was not the usual fire alarm. As one fireman recounted, âOnce that first stack got going, it was âGoodbye, Charlie.ââ The fire was disastrous: it reached 2000 degrees and burned for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed four hundred thousand books and damaged seven hundred thousand more. Investigators descended on the scene, but more than thirty years later, the mystery remains: Did someone purposefully set fire to the libraryâand if so, who?
Guess weâll be finding out if a book about libraries can be interesting!?!
Sounds good to me.
It’s now Saturday afternoon and my brain is drained.
What I’m reading – nothing, I broke my readers! And it doesn’t seem like a good time to go to the drugstore. I have a pair of bifocals , clear on top, reading lens on the bottom. But they’re crap. I’ve been using them to sew face masks and it’s very frustrating.
What I’m watching – I’m catching up on season 4 of Better Things thanks to a reminder by Earendil the Mariner. I love this show.
What I’m listening to – the new James Hunter 6 Nick of Time. My favorite track is one I posted on DUAN before. But it’s so good I’m gonna post it again!
I Can Change Your Mind
I’m reading this:
The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl
It’s about the Dust Bowl. I’m finding the parallels to our current crisis pretty interesting.
