Hi, friends!
Monday I have to go back to the office for my rotation for a few weeks, and of course did I plan ahead for this? Not really. So this afternoon I had to use my adulting brain (ON A WEEKEND, SO UNFORTUNATE) to figure out the order of what I needed to do things so I’d have meals and whatnot ready for actually going to the office regularly again.
Also I did a few hours of yardwork, so while that’s nice and I’m glad it’s done, I am tired tonight, friends.
How did your day go? Was it nice and relaxing? Was it productive? Anything interesting happen?
On a good note, I stopped by Kakao and bought some delicious, delicious chocolates. They had their Easter confections out, and I bought some small chocolate bunnies because they were Beatrix Potter bunnies and it hit me right in the nostalgia feels.

Mmmmmm chocolate *insert Homer Simpson head tilted back, mouth open, drooling meme*
I also got chocolate today! Mr.HZ went for a walk with the kids so that I could nap (yay I napped!) and came back with a 85% dark chocolate bar all for me.
Yard work and Saturday chores, boring but at least the weather was nice.
I put in an aluminum rail system for a friend of a friend in the rain then got home to help wife build fenced in area to hide the garbage cans. Made a nice pasta dinner, going to open some wine while I watch my younger daughter’s new school show why they are #1 in the nation! Go Zags!
Trip to two nurseries looking for pots, bulbs, paint, and enriched soil…cooked ahead for the week, and although we got started around 9 am, it was 6 pm by the time it was finished. Now watching a few of the oddly addictive gardner’s world.
Elliecoo – did you get bulbs? If so, what did you get???
Just listening to my neighbor do laundry past noise curfew. *bangs head*
How noisy are the laundry facilities?
We have in units.
Oh. Sorry. But hey, welcome! When’dya move in?
You would be the one to break noise curfew, naturally.
Yeah, tell that to the people were periodically hang out outside the driveway-facing studio below me when it’s slightly before or after midnight. Grrrr. . . .
Are they playing with a frisbee and smoking weed? If so, it might be one of my coworkers.
Productive. Got the tortillas made and the steak tips turned out well. Also was able to clear out the old ferns from the asparagus bed, sharpen the knives, and make some cookies.
That’s awesome! My 2 chef knives could use a real sharpening, but I have separation anxiety with my knives. Pre-covid it wasn’t an issue because there’s an awesome knife-sharpener who would set up at a local farmer’s market. So I could drop off my babies with her and wander around (sometimes with a beer) and then go back for the super-sharp babies within the hour. But she had a kid in early 2020 and then with covid, she didn’t set up shop at the farmer’s market. I’m hoping she’s back this summer.
If you have any interest in sharpening your own knives, the Spyderco Sharpmaker is a great kit. Easy to use, low maintenance, versatile, stores nicely.
I think I’m on my third? (left behind in moves, “lent” to people, etc., not broken/worn out), and I’ve been using this model since the mid 90s or so, and if something happened to my current one, I’d buy it again, even at double the price.
Then again, if all you have to sharpen is two chef’s knives, I can’t really fault you for paying someone else to do it, especially if you can get beer while waiting…
She charges like $7 a knife, too, so not like I’m out a lot of cash to have them super sharp.
that seems like a decent deal
mildly frustrating? although that’s a touch of an overstatement.
my kitchen sink has been leaking – noticed a couple weeks ago, hoped it was just me being sloppy while washing dishes, but was really careful last time, and still got some leaks. so last weekend or so, cleared everything out under the sink, stuck containers over the likely drippy bits, and then proceeded to not use my kitchen sink all week…
Convinced myself it’s likely an old cracked gasket or something, measured the fittings, and went to home depot to get a big enough wrench and some replacement gaskets today (and did some other shopping as well).
Got home, removed the p-trap portion, and the gaskets looked okay. some pretty gross build-up in the pipe, but I think that’s to be expected, and having it removed will make cleaning it out easy. Then the piece connecting the p-trap to the sink drain fell off… the nut-thing holding it together had corroded through. guess that’s also where the leak was coming from? But part of the nut thing was still stuck on the part connected to the sink drain. I think it may have been put on with plumber’s dope that hardened? Figured since it’s already “broken” I can go ahead and use some vice grips on it, and it wouldn’t budge.
So, I stacked some stuff up, and put a container just under/around it, and filled it with some solvent, then wrapped some saran wrap around it and put the drain plug back in. I’ll give it a try in a bit and see if that helped. If so, back to the hardware store tomorrow to get a replacement nut-thingy. If not, probably back to the hardware store tomorrow to get a replacement nut-thingy and better solvent?
If that doesn’t work, then I guess I’m going to have to clean my apartment and use the bathroom sink, and eventually tell my landlord, I have no idea how long that will take…
got addicted to a little mobile game (tribez…its a timesink…but nothing much better to do at me mums this weekend)
went digging through a pile of my old stuff and found my very first passport..had a picture of a very blonde toddler me in it..lol…also found my birthcertificate…which i could have sworn i had in the pile of paperwork at my house….heh
